He cleared the tins/tank after laying down the base green, mostly for durability--especially on the tank. He also has an Ultra Groundpounder which he did in the army green--that he didnt clear, just left it flat, but it isn't nearly as dyrable--especially on the tank area. Here is that bike:

cleaned out the carbs this week, there was obviously old rusty gas in this thing at some point as there were some deposits in the bowls (the old gas in the tank was clear but will check it for internal rust. i had a few clogged nozzles on 2 of the jets, cleaned everything up real good and reassembled, then bench sync'd them.

it fired right up suprisingly, but will need tuned, i've got some good info on tuning the carbs and am looking into carb adjust guages.......

more to come (along with the new choke base and throttle cable which i just ordered )
i remember doing this when i got my 911.......LOL

here is a pic of my diy carb sync thing.....
harbor freight vacuum guage, fish tank airline valves (one for each cylinder), done.....open the valve for the carb you're adjusting

and a few pics.........i'm hoping to start bobbing the rear next week and glassing up the seat/rear section new front fender is on the way......still need to figure out what mirrors to use......

made a little progress......the fiberglass seat panel base is done, next step is to fab up the rear hump and find some taillights, probably going to use dual round led types......
a few camera phone pics....the seat will end up being a couple inches lower than the stock seat.....

the mold, basically i taped the hell out of it and used mold release wax....

the bottom side, notice the hump in the front, that lets it slot into the stock seat bar on the tank to secure the front...

trimmed and ready for stage 2.....

made some progress......
to make the rear hump i waxed a bucket which was close to the dimensions i wanted, then poured in a mix of 75% bondo and 25% fiberglass resin (to eliminate any bubbles and for a smooth finish), when that cured i layed in some fiberglass matting and more resin. finished product is a panel which will require minimal sanding
cut it down and duraglassed it to the seat pan part in the position i wanted.
i'm going to use 2 round taillights which i'll cut into the rear of the panel.....and i'll be molding/shaving all the lower edges as they aren't perfect.

i also need to fill in the rear so it doesn't resemble the bucket or a small keg LOL

a few pics....

i had a really nice billet aluminum bar end mirror. it was useless for anything other than aesthetics and passing safety. the napoleon bar end mirror is actually useful for seeing things behind my bike while driving.

That looks great, Brian.

IMO if you think you're going to be syncing carbs alot, you might benefit from one of those Motion Pro mercury vaccum things. $50-60. It's really beneficial to see all four at the same time, because it's kind of a 'relational' change between the four carbs, and I'm afraid you might spend hours with that single gauge ripping your hair out. Or, I mean . .. scratching your head.
See you on Saturday!

i think once the bike is farther along i'm going to drop it off at a local shop, they did good with my wheels/tires and seem to know what the hell they're talking about. you're right, the carb adjust is a pia not being able to see all 4 at once........time to give it to a pro

we'll be there early to screw around, there's lots to do in that area and we're usually down there every weekend or two. looking forward to saturday
