Interesting point of view. I wonder why some here are happy to comply and some take it as an accusation.
Takes all kinds.

One of the WalMart's near me installed one-way gates in the entryway. They then eliminated the receipt checking.
The only way out of the store is past a cashier.

My wife told me a good one the other day. A person is walking toward the exit with a cart full of goods at the local Walmart. A greeter asks to see their receipt. The person says "no", leaves the cart and walks out the door.

Same here at one of the two in town. They still check some receipts.

How much product doesn't get scanned at self checkout?

GH85Carrera 03-11-2020 05:19 AM

If you don't like or can't accept that policy, don't shop there. There are zillions of other places to shop. I have not set foot inside a Wal Mart in 30+ years.

Yeah, I wonder about that also. They only have one person watching about a dozen stations. Would be hard to catch everything.

Walmart doesn't want to pay humans to do jobs (self check out) and then accuses random customers of stealing.

Seems like a great business plan!

I say screw 'em.

Years back I noticed that one particular "greeter" would let everyone go out without asking for a receipt and then stop me. I demanded to speak to the manager. I explained my concern. The manager claims that if you have an item not in a bag, they are supposed to stop you. Fine, I'll waste extra bags putting laundry soap or a gallon of milk in a bag. That person disappeared after that conversation so I'll let you draw your own conclusions. I later found out that you don't have to stop. I just say "no thanks" and keep going. End of drama.

^^^This. Its amazing how much stuff accidentally does not get scanned. Its also amazing how much stealing actually goes on. I live between 2 Walmarts , same distance apart. One checks and one does not. I worked part time at a Walmart before I completely retired and I was hugely disappointed when I found out the amount of loss. $1000/week was not unusual.

Yup, been at least 15 years for me

I don't know why they would bother in California, shop lifting is essentially legal here anyway

When I worked for CA I was setting something up for someone on their laptop.

They were in a rush to leave so I told them to get their car and I'd meet them out front.

I'm walking out of the building with the laptop open typing away I hear "hey!!! Hey!!!, STOP" which I ignore. Go outside, hand off laptop and come back in.

Young security guard is all puffed and calls me over, "didn't you hear me tell you to stop, you can't walk out with a laptop open like that"

??? Why not?

"It has to be in a bag"

OK, why?

"How do I know you are not stealing it!"

????? Dude, I assure you, IF I were stealing a laptop, trust me, I'd make sure to hide it in a bag, really, who wouldn't.

My thoughts as well....

I don't steal so I have no problem with that, what I thought was way too much was my firends teenage daughter works at Best Buy, she gets searched (as do all employees) when they leave from work, bags, purses, you name it. Now it's your employee...crazy

sammyg2 03-11-2020 11:18 AM

if you walk out of the store with your hands full and the receipt in your mouth, I can pretty much guaranty they will wave you by ;)

RWebb 03-11-2020 11:20 AM

Just say: "Receipts?? We doan need no stinkin' receipts."

911boost 03-11-2020 11:57 AM

wow, old thread.

Thankfully I do not work in the retail vertical market as much anymore.

The number of self checkouts is creeping up everywhere, i could not tell you the last time I was in a WM. F them.
