I made a batch of that carnitas from the recipe that was floating around last week. It's all done, just waiting on the misses to get home and make some salsa.

I switched up the recipe a bit and used coke in the water, about 50%. Tastes good so far =)

FWIW my stove is a 1940 something Chambers... I found the receipt for the stove in some papers in an envelope in the storage of the stove.. It cost a bit over $300 for this way back then
Hey! My schedule was busy tonight. I was supposed to be at two events tonight at the opposite ends of the greater Los Angeles area. I'm skipping one, so I guess I could make dinner, but I don't have anything to make.

Subway it is!

That's why I kept it when I re-did the kitchen...

Mine's a 1946 GE Liberator, only stove that's been in this 1946 house. But for the fact it's electric, I would love it with all my heart. I suffer the electric for the steadfastness & charm of this old beauty. Everything still works except the clock & the built-in meat thermometer.

1946 GE Liberator

I wasn't very adventurous about dinner tonight. I decided to cook with what I had on hand. I'd spent the afternoon in the back of my 911 with a McGyver'd steam hose, removing the last bits of window tint that I couldn't reach on the first go with the steamer's original nozzle. Job done! But I was a bit of a steamy mess.

I had on hand: frozen skinless chicken breasts, fresh baby spinach, Basmati rice, provolone and shredded cheddar cheese. Put 2 c uncooked rice into the bottom of a greased baking pan, added spices liberally (salt, pepper, garlic powder, dried onion, bit of thyme), piled on baby spinach, set the chicken on top, added maybe 3 cups water and 1/2 c lemon juice, covered with foil and baked about 45 minutes at 350. Removed the foil, added another cup of water, piled on cheeses, and returned to the oven uncovered for another 15 mins. Hubby and I were very happy with the outcome. It'll make a few good lunches this week as well. We're calling it Cheesy Chicken Spinach Casserole.

No-one feels that great here today. Wife had a tooth extracted, just wants soup. I'm tuckered out, been in a 7 hour meeting all day. So:

Searing some yellowfin steaks.
Fried rice with scrambled eggs and Chinese pork sausage.
Potato leek soup from my freezer.

Easy enough.

[hijack]

my bad... thought the stove cost over $300 in the '40's just scanned the receipt for s and giggles... it was $184, on May 29 1941..... Still I think that was some coin..

I live in the house my great grandfather built... Have done enough renovation/ rebuilding so there are no surprises left...

Like when I took a picture off the wall.... and one of those little turquoise Tiffany boxes hit the floor...and there was a gold an diamond broach in the box..

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyler-florence/bacon-braised-brussels-sprouts-recipe/index.html

This is the recipe I based mine on.... had to reduce chicken stock alot and braising time... or the sprouts would have been lumps of mush after browning the crust in the oven

You caught me!
No Hot Pocket here.

There's a liquor store in Napa that has a small kitchen in the back.
Italian take out. "Lawler's"

I've been here in Napa for nearly 20 years and never been in, let alone, seen it.
They've been serving for longer than that. I've driven past it 1,000's of times.

We got 2 quarts of spag for $13.00, a large loaf of garlic bread for $3.50 and a pint of bean salad for $2.00.

Pretty good, and I'll have leftovers for lunch and dinner tomorrow!

( I don't get out much )

Yes she does, and by the way quality women really like a guy that can cook.
Its not that difficult, open up a cookbook, or even easier use the internet to find a recipe.
By the way subway sucks!
