Help! Nissan 370Z - Talk me into (not) buying!!!!

I have always love cars! Trying to get an reliable for my daughter, we passed a Nissan dealer.

Now, it looks like daughter is not getting a car.......but Dad will be!!!

Any idea why I should/should not buy this car? Anyone has a friend who has had it for a while?

Not much info about the car as it is pretty new.

I know, I know, I know, it is not a Porsche!!!!

I drove a 240z, 280's and 300's; they're great cars and lots of fun.

One day a car buddy of mine says, "why don't you buy a Porsche, they hold their value way better?" I said, "I can't afford a Porsche, are you NUTS!" Next car was a Porsche.

Funny how affordable a Pcar really is in comparison.

I fully agree about Porsches holding their values. I have a few

On the other hand, I think a discounted, 332-hp, black, brand-new 370Z can be had for $27,000.00!

Ask the man who owned one...

This should help.

Go for it! Supposedly they fixed the poor build quality with the 370. We're more enablers than anything, don't expect to be talked out of it.

I had a 350Z and I loved it. Great car!
The car handles well, felt solid, and gave me not 1 issue.

The 370Z is lower, lighter and quicker with more HP.

The engineers at Nissan are pretty sharp and I think they are producing some good stuff.

I say get it!

If you are over the financial implications of buying a new car, then ask yourself why a Z?

You confessed it wasn't something you planned, you didn't mention you've lusted after a Z for years.... it seems like impulsive lust.

Lust is okay, impulsiveness is rarely a virtue. A sports car, IMHO, should be a reward. A gratification of lust over time. You feel this way about a Porsche. You feel this way about a Ferrari. Some feel this way about a Corvette, or (insert any car here). Unless you have lusted after a Z-car since you were a schoolboy, you will be quickly disappointed with the 370Z.

Not that the Z is a bad car. It's just not a GREAT car. It does many things quite well. It has a stiff chassis, it's not heavy for a modern car, it makes nice sounds, its objective numbers are good. But it lacks that emotive quality that creates a sum greater than its parts.

It's like hooking up with a nineteen year old cheerleader. Great at first, but with no real substance it doesn't stand the test of time.

There you have it. Sod the car, go and bang a 19 year old cheerleader.

On the other hand the car might be easier to explain to your wife.

If that is toy money for you, go ahead and get it.

At least take an extended test drive.

I myself would like a Cayman S.

From my perspective, the "test of time" would only be a few hours, you must have a different time frame in mind

If I wasn't too big to fit comfortably, there would be one in my garage right now. Be sure to order the sport package, and ask the dealership about them adding the rear end and engine oil coolers...

Not so with the optional (dealer installed) coolers...and they are every bit as fast as a Cayman S...at half the price. Of course, you won't have the P-car snob appeal...

I like the stereotypical "no soul" comments regarding Japanese cars. Does soul = break down? In which case, I agree. Otherwise, I've owned two Nissans with plenty of character.

FWIW, Car & Driver (Or was it R&T? I forget) called the 370Z "...the best sports car buy on the planet."
