It was R&T. Car and driver said that the 370 was a little quicker but they still preferred the cayman.

R&T, IF I recall correctly...I'd suggest anyone considering either car read the entire article.

1. I never lusted for a Z. However, ever since owning a 280Z, I have always paid attention to the series.
2. My lust has always been 911's. However, I have gone thru a lot of them. I still have my daily driver '83, plus a 75 that I am doing an engine-rebuild project.
3. I am over the 'reward' phase. My reward was made 25+ years ago.
4. I agree with you. It lacks that emotive quality that creates a sum greater than its parts.

Nothing can replace my attachment to my 911s; I just want the Z as my daily driver. I want to feel 330+ horses as opposed to 190; the feel of newer technology; a functional a/c; the feel of 19" wheels vs 16's; the feel of a coupe vs. a cab; .........

Lust is okay, impulsiveness is rarely a virtue. A sports car, IMHO, should be a reward. A gratification of lust over time. You feel this way about a Porsche. You feel this way about a Ferrari. Some feel this way about a Corvette, or (insert any car here). Unless you have lusted after a Z-car since you were a schoolboy, you will be quickly disappointed with the 370Z.

Not that the Z is a bad car. It's just not a GREAT car. It does many things quite well. It has a stiff chassis, it's not heavy for a modern car, it makes nice sounds, its objective numbers are good. But it lacks that emotive quality that creates a sum greater than its parts.

It's like hooking up with a nineteen year old cheerleader. Great at first, but with no real substance it doesn't stand the test of time.

On the other hand the car might be easier to explain to your wife.
Not if the 19yr old does all the housework...

Nissan have brilliant Engineers and build brilliant cars. I currently have a 450+ hp Z in my garage, just bought another time capsule 50K mile Z and have my old faithful that I love:

Buy that 370Z they are incredible. I would take a 370Z over a Gayman or Cockster S any day.

Do they still have that funky bar, barrier, under the hatchback? That was so odd that you couldn't but anything of any size in the back. But the same with a 911.

It's moved forward so it won't obstruct the luggage area.

My neighbor 2 doors down has a yellow Roadster one that he is considering selling. He is not a car guy. Per him,

1. The car is awesome.
2. No problems....
3. Except, above 75 mph, the car hesitates and backfires.

Say what you will but a turbo'd gayman or cockster would prolly eat that 370z around the track.

Talk to "Emission" about the car. He's an automotive journalist and just reviewed the car - in fact, he brought the car to my house a few weeks ago while he had it. He liked the car, but he has definite opinions on it. I'd PM him if I were you.

Cab - I converted my Datsun Roadster to electronic igntion and said adios to the Hitachi points and then I rebuilt the SU carbs, my car will cruise all day at 80mp/h and that is the 1.6L, these two things will transform any running issues especially bacfiring and hesitation. Does you know if you neighbor's car is the 1.6 or the 2.0L?

Turbo a Gayman? So spend $55-$60K on a new Gayman or a Cockster and then drop another $6,000 turbo kit (while kising your facory warranty goodbye) to take the price in to the mid $60s..to beat a $29K 370Z...umm not likely.

Hmmm...how 'bout a Turbo kit for the 370 then? Probably in the development stage as I type...if not already on the aftermarket.

Hey...the 370Z was dubbed the best sports car buy on the planet by the R&T hacks. I'm sure they are right.

Too bad they don't have just a wee bit more cockpit room. If I were say, 5'10" instead of 6'3", there would be a 370Z in my garage.

I cropped the photo for you. I think that improves it.

I believe he has the 2.0L. From what I remember, he has the sought-after model. He bought it as a 'when I grow-up, I want to buy a Roadster.'

Well, back to my Z........ I'll be emailing Emmission!
