Do you think Cooke's check was clean? Do you think it is honorable to continue fighting when a player goes down on their back on the ice (there is a code-even in hockey)? Do you think that Bergeron had a "fighting chance" (pardon the pun) against Mongo Malkin (who by the way is also a very skilled player)?
Refute your challenge? Ummm... look at the game tape, there's your proof.
Prove Malkin keep trying to fight once they were down. Looked like Bergeron was doing a pretty good job also.
No Cooke's hit wasn't clean but neither was the hit on Neil. That was Cooke's first major in 2 years, geez. AND if he wanted to seriously injure the guy he certainly could have, (2 years ago he would have tried).

I know Joe, you'll read this with an open mind...

His account:

"I chipped the puck in [to the offensive zone] early, just after [crossing] the red line," he said. "I had quite a bit of interference from [Boston defenseman Torey] Krug, which pushed me inside.
"After I get by him, I look up. I see [McQuaid's] right shoulder, and he looks me right in the eyes. I think at the last minute, he goes to make a reverse with the puck. I was committed to hit him. I don't drive him through the boards. I make contact. I think it's a penalty, but I don't think it's an ejection or a suspension. But that's my opinion."

The black and yellow colored glasses you are viewing the series thru sure are working well

Malkin pounded on Bergeron while Berg was on his back on the ice (would you like me to post the video?) Low class. Especially that Berg shouldn't be fighting someone that big anyway.

Cooke: OK, I see his excuse. Plausible but he has a reputation and the ejections haven't stopped this year so I am skeptical. I do appreciate the "I know you'll read this with an open mind". Um, should that have been in green?

Oh, BTW, the Penguin dominance continues at the end of the 1st period in game 2: 4 - 1 Bruins. Wow they really are taking it to the Bs.

p.s. There is a thread just for the Pen/Bruin series. We should continue discussing the conference finals here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/752231-penquins-versus-bruins.html so we don't have all this chatter taking up space that will be needed when the Bruins play the Blackhawks for the Cup.

Kudos to the Bruins. They took advantage of every Penguin mistake, (& there were a million). But it was also a series of the hockey gods on the Bruin side. OMG just thinking, LOL, the Pens averaged more hit posts than goals, .5 goals, 2 hit posts per game wow. Although Mr. Rask played extremely well in games 3 & 4 I don't want to hear how he was awesome for 4 games, in game 1 the Pens were either hitting him with the puck or hitting the post, hockey gods. Games 3 & 4 were great hockey games.
Not that Letang is bad, obviously not but they don't need an O-fensive defenseman. Trade him for a blue liner like they had with Hal Gill, and or Scudara. And of course now their goalie situation is a friggin' mess

The finals show be another great series.

I didn't watch a lot of the Pens Bruins series, but I couldn't believe how snake bit the Pens were. No puck luck on their side with the hit posts and bad bounces. Not to discount the fact that the Bruins played extremely well.

I think it was more than luck. Luck will get you a break now and then but it won’t sweep 4 games.

The B’s just were/ are a better team, not necessarily on paper or on career stats but they are a well oiled machine. They play two way hockey and they make you pay for your mistakes, the Pens didn’t do that. Except for the blow out they were very entertaining hockey games.
I can live with either the B’s or the Hawks winning the cup, I would have had a hard time with the Kings or the Pens.

phantom interference calls: you must have watched a different game than me. I challenge you to show me video of a phantom call. I saw a lot of blocking (and yes I saw one the B's got away with also).

On the other hand, I have to admit, I don't know what impressed me more:
a) how overwhelmingly the Pens dominated the B's or,
b) what a clean player the "new and improved" Cooke was.
He looks like the same old dirty player he's always been.

Marchand's hit was not totally square in the back like Cooke and his hit didn't look premeditated like Cooke's was.
Sure there is a size difference between Malkin & Bergeron but Malkin is a pussy and your man Bergeron couldn't turtle fast enough, like your other fave Lemieux. IMO the ref's were too fast in breaking the fight up, who said dropping to the ice is the end of the fight, its when the ref's break it up that it's over. If you call this a low class move then I guess you'd have to admit that Bobby Orr was low class also, it was his MO to throw you to the ice, get on top and keep punching. Sure the league was different then but there were no players that turtled, you played dirty, chippy hockey then, when the time came you answered the bell, you didn't drop to the ice and cover up as fast as you could. Bobby Orr, low class - never, Malkin, low class, not IMO, players who run and hide and turtle, they are low class IMO.
The Pens got beat, out played by a team that wanted it more.

A player on his back on the ice is defenseless. Bergeron didn't turtle (that would be his front going down to the ice). You will notice that normally, as soon as a player goes down, the refs move in. Usually, when a player goes down, the other will stop...fight over...they won. This would be especially true when the guy on top has a major size, weight, or fight experience advantage. On occasion, tempers will be so strong that both players will keep fighting when one goes down but is not usually the case. Bergeron is not an agitator like Marchand. He is also not a fighter. For him to throw down with Malkin is asking to get pounded. You accuse Bergeron of turtling. I may be looking through Bruin colored glasses but I didn't see that in the series with the Pens.

As far as the series itself went. The Pens didn't show up for games 1 and 2 (especially in goaltending). Games 3 and 4 were hard fought and could have gone either way. There were some bad calls that went both ways. Rask did well but there were a few too many dings on the iron behind him. I've said it before and will say it again, if you don't have a goalie, you are out of the playoffs. The Pens lost confidence in their goalkeepers and when that happens you start getting defensemen playing a little farther back because they don't know if the goalie will cover their assets on a breakaway.

I think all the experts were expecting the entire series to go like games 3-4 with the skills of the Pens to beat the B's. The playoffs are where the best of the best square off. The Bruins are built for the playoff where it comes down to grit and teamwork. What they lack in star power they excel in never say die determination. That's how they won in 2011 with Tim Thomas. I hope Rask is up to the task this year.

On a side note, did they figure out if the game winning goal was deflected by Iginla's stick? I couldn't tell from the video replays online.

except for your closing sentence the rest is horse sh 1t. Pounding on a downed man is WWF not NHL.

Finn, I'm noticing a pattern here. It seems your favorite insult to a Bruin is that they turtle. I already refuted your accusation of Bergeron and if you look at Marchand go after Niskanen in the game 4 (about 5 minutes into the 2nd period) he didn't turtle either. Oh by the way;
Nisaknen 6' 0" 209 lbs
Marchand 5' 9" 183 lbs

Both of these fight matchups proved the bravery of Bergeron and Marchand.
Normally I respect your hockey opinions but you are really missing it on these out of the blue and refutable accusations.

Well let us see if the Bruins can shut down the 'Hawks like they did the Pens. One big difference is the Hawks have a two really good stay at home defensemen in Keith & Seabrook.

Dare say Blackhawks in 6?
