It's good for making ice cream. I made 2 quarts of espresso ice cream for some friends last night using five double-shots of espresso and about a half cup of kahlua. We all agreed that it was easily the best coffee ice cream any of us have had.

I drink one cup (12 oz.) each morning. I don't see anything bad about some morning coffee. I've heard good things about tea and tea has more caffeine, if that's what you're after.

My daughter was giving me grief about coffee consumption; about 4-5 half cups/day (by the time I get to it, the other half is cold).
I researched some websites. It's okay, but don't drink 50 cups a day and you'll be fine (caveat; except the people with caffeine issues). Sherwood |

Coffee's good for mornings and sometimes evenings... drink a cup on the way to a late movie.
Then maybe take a milligram of melatonin when I get home if I think I'll need it to get to sleep. Hahaha... reminds me of my buddy Reid who went to Staunton Military Academy in the late '60's... he said the coffee there was affectionately called The Wedge for just that reason.

Drink tea instead, it is less bad for you
Don't get me wrong, I like coffee, drinking a lot of it from time to time. I tend to drink tea, 500 ml green tea with half a lemon's worth of juice and a big squeeze of honey in the AM, ice tea during the day. After a good meal I like a good strong cup of coffee. I do love me an iced white chocolate cappuccino with a shot or two of Kahlua too I take melatonin most nights before bed

I drink 1 travel mug worth of good-quality drip (made at home) every morning. On weekends typically a double cap or latte plus maybe another cup of drip. I used to drink far too much coffee all morning and then switch to diet coke in the afternoon, and it did not agree with my digestive system or my sleep quality.
It's definitely a quality over quantity thing for me, and something that would be terribly hard to give up after so many years.

Scott,
Scientifically, coffee seems to pile up health promoting documentation during the last years. Together with Swedish wet snuff its all you need to reach a vital, happy and fertile 100 years, with a shining set of teeth! At least thats what I have managed to talk myself into.

![]() Tea Vs Coffee This bring up a good question, I have good quality loose leaf green tea that I get at the Asian market. The coffee I make is fresh ground beans I get at trader Joe's. I make coffee or tea in the mornings depending on my mood... when I drink the exact same amount of either... coffee gets me way more buzzed than tea. As a matter of fact if I want to be hyper (working in the yard, cleaning up around the house, going for a bike ride) I drink coffee but if I am going to be sedentary (reading, meditating) I make green tea. So whatzup wit dat?

3 observations to share:
I like coffee, I drink a lot, probably six cups a day, all in the AM. I also pee a lot. Meth Mouth is hard to say Copenhagen is more addictive than heroin, giving it up was the worst 3 day detox I've ever had.

Coffee is also a good excuse for telling stories on a brisk Sunday morning every month:

There have been a number of studies showing positive health effects due to caffeine, mostly done in Italy and France, where they do coffee a little differently than we do here. Coffee, like wine, is healthy, when consumed in moderation -- something like 2 cups per day, or a shot or two of espresso per day. The most memorable effect I remember from the list was like a 50% reduction in the probability of Type II diabetes in men, and like a 40% reduction in Type II diabetes in women.
There was another study that showed that caffeine is a catalyst for the deposit of calcium on dendrites in the brain (or something like that), the upshot of which was that people who had reasonable levels of caffeine in their systems had been long-term knowledge retention. Of course, there's also the short term effects: increased focus and concentration, speed of thought processes, shorter tempers and quicker wits, and dehydration. I find that two shots of espresso in the morning gets my system rolling. I then drink lots of water the rest of the day to counteract the dehydration. Just my $.02. Dan
