+3 At home I have a VERY nice butcherblock work bench that has a stain from charging batteries on it ( When I raced Rotax Karts which ran on total loss batteries to fire the spark plugs)

I had a S/S top on a work bench once. I would lose tools on it! It was cool until you where in a rush and you couldn't find a wrench that was right in fron of you.

We then painted it white.... It hid white items Next came odd tan. It worked great.

At my warehouse I have a masonite covered bench. It's perfect!

Oh and where your VISE is buy a aluminium cookie sheet and bolt your vise and or grinder down on top of the cookie sheet and into the work bench! IT will help contain cuttings, cuting fluid, grindings etc. I let the sheet hang over the work bench edge about 3/4 of an inch ( 20 mm for you euro snobs) it helps alot.

So, I ended up using NYMEX wallboard material. It's vinyl and easy to cut and you just glue it down. If it doesn't last too long, no biggie; A sheet of it was $10 so I'll just rip it off of there. Looks great though, IMO!!.

Time for a beer.

Nice clean install. Well done.
-I'd suggest beefing that up a bit with a post/other in the center(another place to hang something). Today's 2x4 pine is more water than pulp fiber.
-A small window with a swing-out fan will let in light and vent fumes/dust quickly. Nice to have on a hot summer day.
-I made side holsters for the drill and grinder next to the vice for quick-drawing.
