getting nerdy for a minute - install wireshark and find out what it's really doing.

Boxing day (day after christmas) test match (game of cricket) starts today.
If you have never heard of cricket, its a crazy game that goes for five days.
It has lunch and tea breaks, very old game.

tell me about it! I found the coffee beans almost immediately and they've been sitting in the pantry teasing me every morning :mad:

and if it rains, the whole thing is called a draw, or somesuch.

there is a lot more, but i didn't want to clutter things up. i think i found the culprit: doubleclick cookie from google. arseholes. i'd been getting these annoying advert pop-ups. i am betting they are gone now. i'll report back in a minute.

nope. still getting traffic and still getting the same popups. resuming scan.

wireshark? i'll check that out. right fkn now. (i am not a happy camper, but glad i installed peerblock.)

it will dual boot ubuntu and xp. i am using xp, right now.

i did figure out what is doing it, but not exactly why: utorrent.

i am still setting the unit up to for daily use, as my main machine kicked the bucket. so i put utorrent on there and peerblock at the same time. even though i have zero downloads/uploads on utorrent, there is still traffic, as utorrent must announce itself to peers. apparently, some of those entities interested in what is going on with the traffic are looking for illegal downloads, hence the AP2P nomenclature on some of the listings in the log.

that wireshark is cool stuff. i have limited ability to use it, however. i'll start reading.

Yeah, I'm still a novice user of the wireshark. Have found it very useful when things look dodgey.

60 and rainy all day here. Spent most of the day just being lazy.

cooler day forcast for today - 40C. Yesterday topped at 43.8. I think I'll sit under the aircon and watch the cricket today.

We're a bit 'all over the place like a mad womans chit' in the cricket world at the moment. I'd be nice if we got up Vas, but I don't really like our chances.....may have spoke too soon, one of our opening batsman just hit a masive six. Whoohoo...
