Same at my house with the land line. Except mainly use my alarm system for one of those "I've fallen and can't get up" pendant thingies for my Mom. Besides, if the phone is disconnected the monitor company gets an alarm on the system. At least mine does.

Yep. The fire part is important. We have insurance but I would rater have my old stuff as is rather than start all over with new stuff.

The 20 nephews and nieces kid from 17 to 5 loved their light up yo-yos I got them all for Christmas this year. It was mad house crazy with 20 kids trying to do yo-yo tricks with light up yo-yos all at once. One of their Mom's commented that I hadn't gotten them hoola-hoops yet and that would look pretty crazy all the kids trying that at once.

One year I got them all little LED flash lights. It looked like some kind of sanitarium breakout when they all went outside in the dark and were running around pointing the lights every which direction. Same sort of mayhem when I got them light up frisbees.

Kinda fun trying to come up with one cheap gift I can give 20 kids from 5 to 17 that they will all like. I've got a pretty good track record, several of them always tell me they really look forward to seeing what I am getting them.

I hate it when people think there is something special about that moment and feel the need to make noise. We had neighbors that did that every year. One year I needed to use my leaf blower at 8:00 AM on New Years day. It took a lot of time to clean up the area near their bedroom.

svandamme 12-26-2011 09:49 AM

Well, it's been ages and this year i've had this itch about it, and i gotta scratch it.
It's once in the year .. I'm not going to do it every year, to expensive..

GH85Carrera 12-26-2011 09:52 AM

It is just another night. Just like the night before and the night after.

svandamme 12-26-2011 09:56 AM

So is Christmas, Hannuka, Easter, Tet, etc etc..
yet people do celebrate those..
This year, i'm doing old/new, and i'm setting off firework..
To each his own, but you will have a hard time convincing the rest of the world that it's "just another night" and i'm afraid that fireworks is not out of character for old/new..
"Que sera , sera" as they say.. It's the only time per year that it's allowed without getting a special permit, that alone kinda busts the "just another night" , legislation even has a provisioning for it.

"Oh hey, I know about your court date next month where all charges will most likely be dismissed because your dad has a fair chunk of money and hired the best attorney in the state, but should things turn out poorly you could actually go to prison for the rest of your life since you're charged with 10 felonies including a class a with a mandatory 10yr minimum."

Yeah, that sounds like a good way to bring it up.....

HHI944 12-26-2011 12:01 PM

I normally shoot the biggest bottle rockets I can find towards parris island until I see the lights of the coast guard boat coming towards me for NYE.

svandamme 12-26-2011 12:03 PM

Well it would be mighty impressive if i could get the coast guard to come look me up over some massive bottle rocket fired from the back of my garage..
There's a canal 800 meter down the road, but i'm sure it would take the coast guard at least an hour of serious boating to get there from the coast :D:D
