is there some beer he can't get in NL? i mean, utah, there is all kinds of stuff i'd like to see, but NL....

West Vleteren is near unobtainium even in Belgium where the abbey is (8 miles from where i live).
you can only buy direct from the abbey, and only after making a reservation on the beer phone, at a specific time. Only order limited amount per month.
And the line is always busy, usually takes me 40 redials just to get a tone, that's extra 8
for Abt 12, i've had times where i had 200+ redials on my phone... and still nothing.

Westvleteren 12 from Westvleteren Abdij St. Sixtus - Ratebeer

note, you'll find webshops selling it, at a price per bottle, higher then the price per crate at the abbey... They are not supposed to resell it, explicitely mentioned on the ticket when you buy at the abbey... but obviously they do it.... it's not like the monks will leave the abbey to cause trouble...

nynor 12-09-2009 11:03 AM

i'll have to see if i can find a good recipe and profile to clone this beer:

Westvleteren Blond from Westvleteren Abdij St. Sixtus - Ratebeer

Buy online Westvleteren 12°-1/3L at Belgian Beers Shop!

$35 a bottle. i might pay that for a bottle of beer that can be aged.

how much is a crate of them? if it is less than $35, that is CHEAP for that kind of beer.

svandamme 12-09-2009 11:10 AM

50 usd a crate, if you can get a slot at the abbey

cheap. it costs me about $1 a pint to MAKE beer at home, more if it is high gravity or has fruit added to it.

Did you see the story about the Samuel Adams Utopia beer? It sells for $500.00 per bottle. That is some kind of crazy. It is 27% alcohol.

I think it must be a marketing gimmick. Sort of like the Zymol ultimate wax that is hundreds of bucks a tub.

I will not be buying either one.

Glen, I did not know my Avatar was gone. Recently?

Only another thousand posts, gentlemen, for the silver medal. Shouldn´t take more than a couple of days. :D

i agree, to a point. you have to know the back story on that beer, however. they spent A LOT of time and research coming up with the yeast, for starters, and then the recipe.

i'd NEVER pay $500 for a bottle of beer. however, it is an interesting product.

GH85Carrera 12-09-2009 02:20 PM

$500 for beer is crazy. I know some people pay that and a lot more for wine. I think that is stupid as well.

nynor 12-09-2009 02:37 PM

i am TOTALLY with ya.

When I quit drinking I put the money I was spending in the bank, in 2 years I payed off the balance of my Mercedes, it was 2 years old at the time.
I used to drink a lot, and therefore spent a lot of money

Evening boys

G-man that pic you asked about? That was Tom's lady friend... Picture he sent me a few months back and told me to post then and I didn't.... We both are confused as to why it was taken down....

i have thought about this. i calculate that i spend about $200 per month. while not a monthly payment for a 911, it is significant.

nynor 12-09-2009 09:15 PM

i cooked for my my wife tonight.

cornish game hens with cornbread stuffing (homemade, of course)
au gratin potatos
steamed corn
french bread baguette with garlic butter

buttery goodness!

porsche4life 12-09-2009 09:27 PM

You cooked... Why are you here.... Shouldn't you be getting the favor returned? ;)
