I told em from the start that I suspected the damage was well in excess of value.....they ignored me.

nynor 02-14-2012 03:21 PM

I do drive my 911 in FUN ways. Track events are FUN! :D

HHI944 02-14-2012 03:27 PM

Yup. Cv was reinstalled improperly, came loose at speed, caused front differential to bind, bound differential cause front propshaft to explode, exploding propshaft triggered all srs sensors, sos system, ripped a hoke in the floor pan and destroyed the exhaust in its way out. The shop geico used said no tyranny or differential damage. The half dozen Mercedes mechanics I've spoken to said that the possibility of there being no tyranny or differential damage is beyond minuscule.....

afternoon guys. back later off to run an errand.

HHI944 02-14-2012 03:29 PM

Stopped by the dealer where I test drove the gt500....the sales guy who went on that drive saw me and damn near ran in the other direction :)

The lottery commission got really upset over the company formed to win thing. I remember some news show done on it.

holy poopsicles! i bet that required a change of underwear.

HHI944 02-14-2012 03:49 PM

Yeah, going down the road at 55 and then BOOM, I smell gun powder, the engine is still running but no power, I see a huge crater in the road behind me and the popo come on over sos asking if anyone died....

HHI944 02-14-2012 03:50 PM

I almost had a fit.....thank god for klonopin....popped one and it mellowed me out fast.

GH85Carrera 02-14-2012 03:56 PM

All of that makes me happy to drive OLD rear wheel drive cars.

HHI944 02-14-2012 04:01 PM

I had a prop shaft let go on the rover....u joint just wore out. ...nbd just popped it back to rwd and went home....took about an hour to swap the joint.

porsche4life 02-14-2012 04:02 PM

Glen, my rear drive 944 has CV joints...

nynor 02-14-2012 04:03 PM

it made a crater in the road!?

GH85Carrera 02-14-2012 04:09 PM

My rear drive 911 has cv joints. There are several stories of cv joints letting loose. None caused well over 20k in damage.

GH85Carrera 02-14-2012 04:14 PM

My 914 had a cv joint come off due to a dumb ass mechanic (me) not getting the bolts torqued properly. It ate my clutch cable in an instant. I walked back and found two bolts and screwed them in by hand. I drove home in first gear by starting it in gear. Try starting new car in gear!
I got home slowly and replaced the clutch cable and the two missing bolts and learned a lesson on cv joint bolts.

Yup, the half of the shaft that was attached to the transfer case dug in before the joint let go. Took out a chunk about 8" in diameter and 2 or 3 deep

nynor 02-14-2012 04:27 PM

i saw the aftermath of jeep wrangler that lost its driveshaft. that thing got airborne on the freeway.

porsche4life 02-14-2012 04:34 PM

Saw a pickup drop a prop shaft pulling up to the stop light.... Watching the dumbarse chain the front end up and the try to pull it away was pretty good.. Shaft beating around under the truck...

vas930 02-14-2012 04:41 PM

Makes you wonder why tailshaft loops are not on factory cars.
