lol

Basically I just cherry-pick the stuff I agree with. Which does not include me in a bar. I have neither the time nor the desire, and would rather save the money. At this point I am almost leaning towards just going back to my same old ways of keeping to myself. I need to start slowly.

Ya don't have to drink to be in a bar! It's a social setting and a good one for meeting people. The bright side - maybe you're the sober ride home for a couple of drunk Poly chicks...

Max, I am racing at Phillip Island next week.
I may give you a yell on those wheels after the weekend.
This is the track.
Its the same they use for the Moto GP.

exactly. the point was to get you out of your comfort zone and open your mind.

i go to bars all of the time still...i drink a diet coke. not that i care, but if i did...id just say it's a rum and coke.

Flieger 04-05-2012 11:57 PM

That sounds awkward to sit there and not drink while others are. I think my mind would be wandering more towards engineering subjects unless there were some girl talking to me. I don't think I would feel any more comfortable trying to start a conversation with a girl at a bar than I would be anywhere else.

Looks like a very nice track. Have fun, Vas. :)

Need I remind you all that I am looking for someone intelligent who shares similar interests with me, not a drunk chick for a one nighter?

slodave 04-06-2012 12:04 AM

1) Just because they may be drunk at the time, does not mean that they are dumb. That's just ridiculous.

2) Fine, change the situation. You find a "hot" chick at the bar that also does not drink and end up with something in common - hey she's there to either help her drunk (dumb) friends or maybe run into someone like yourself.

good points by dave.

i could tell you what i really think, but it'll just irritate you.

hehe:D

OK, Max this is the last thing I will say on the issue.
Most of my advice sounds complicated and takes alot of work.
So this is easy, true and simple.
You need to get to the point that you can talk to the girls like you talk to the boys you know.
To do this means you have to talk to them, lots of them.
See how the operate to the point that you are relaxed.
Sorry to say this, as from your point this may seem scary
This is the only way that you can become genuine friends, and go on from that.
The begining and end are not seperate!
To get to the point you want you must make a start.
Its not going to happen if you dont make that start.
I dont care if its the girl in your class or a hooker!
Just make a start.

They are just people like us.
So talk to them.
Old, young, whatever.
Make that start.
Good luck. :)

Flieger 04-06-2012 12:10 AM

Nah, go for it. It is my own flaw that I would not know how to act around a drunk or feel comfortable.

slodave 04-06-2012 12:11 AM

Okay, switch drunk with slightly inebriated or "over the limit", but still totally able to have a coherent conversation. It's possible! I know. :D She was completely sober, I was not.

I've got friends who are girls (and are in engineering) and have no trouble talking with them. It's the ones I don't know and am attracted to that are hard to approach and break the ice.

OK, tipsy sounds like it could be somewhat fun.

Find a good coffee bar DT. They have to still exist. They may be eclectic, but no alcohol and plenty of peeps to talk to. I used to frequent one and I don't even drink coffee. Played a lot of chess and met a number of really cool people.

Thats part of the issue, Max.
You are looking for a wife!
Forget that, you may have ten GFs before you meet the right one.
It may end up being a friend of a GF.
Or a sister, or whatever.
If you want to get wet, you must get in the pool!
Take that first step. :)

Then date the ones you are comfortable with as a start.
They will have friends and sisters and so on.
Go out with them not as a date if you want.
Thats the start you must make. :)

Dating in the friend zone? We will have to have Tweezer's thoughts on that. :)
