Epoxy job went well, the metal stud and base plate are anchored solid in the wooden stock now.. and the oprod moves around freely, no binding..

Porsche-poor 04-14-2012 01:59 PM

nice. now whats next?

svandamme 04-14-2012 02:09 PM

Stick, alot of factors add up to make the brakes on a modern car far better than those in the 70s.
My brakes are great for what they are.
My isssue is a lack of tyre to stand up to the task.
The other big thing is the fact I dont have a LSD.
Will sort it out over winter.
These two changes will help the stability under brakes alot.
Happy with everything else. :)

Suspension has a lot to do with braking. Not much you can do with out getting spendy.

I have 142,000 miles on a very stock 911. I got a ride at the track in a new Caymin R and it amazing how much faster a modern car is. The car is just a ton faster than mine. I could spend the price difference on my car and still not be that fast. But that new car is a disposable car. It will not be on a track in 35 years in any sort of stock condition.

Good for you, Glen.
Yes, them new porshes are fast, but just not the same. :)

Suspension is fine, Glen.
205 and 225s on a full weight 420hp 930 was never going to do the job.
I have a few options on 10 or 11inch fuchs in 17s.
That will make a huge change, 225s and 265/275s.
That and a lsd. :)

svandamme 04-14-2012 03:03 PM

it may be fine, but it's old school compared to the GT3's and modern cars.. That's what gives em the edge in braking..
You could get te same kind of rubber surface as they have, you still wouldn't be able to use it like they do under braking...

Yep. 35 years of technology is more than just tires and wheels. Way more.

Welp, lotsa storms in the state again. None around here fortunately. Some of the storms are moving at 80 mph across the ground.

Rick V 04-14-2012 03:31 PM

Welp that was fun, nice day to rip up some roads. It was even capped of with Beth wanting to rip someones head off and stuff their dog in a rather unsavory place, then taze them. They cut us off on the interstate, and got mad when I made my displeasure known.

Jim Richards 04-14-2012 03:46 PM

We're just back, too. There are a fair number of twisty roads in NoVA. Even with the stock suspension, the 964 does well carving corners. When we returned to "civilization," Lu and I stopped at a Red Robin to satisfy her burger craving. It's been months since she's had one...poor girl. :)

I was not suggesting it would be as good.
Just another improvment.

Porsche-poor 04-14-2012 05:16 PM

I love my old school. Mostly cause who can afford new school....

RKDinOKC 04-14-2012 05:54 PM

You are beat before you even start.

pete3799 04-14-2012 06:14 PM

Alt. done but didn't get a ride in (well....16 miles to the corner store and back). So tomorrow
it's time for a tour.
Had to fix the front bumper on the highlander that some a$$ hat backed into while my daughter was at a school dance.
Good luck with the storms out there.

I can afford new school.
But the only new one that would interest me is a GT2.
I find it hard to justify spending over 400k on a car.
You can buy a Nissan GTR for 150k thats faster than all but a GT2.
GTRs are not my thing.
I enjoy getting the most out of the old turbo.
If you want to beat all the new cars, buy one.

Porsche-poor 04-14-2012 07:57 PM

Nope I like mine just the way it is. Fast enough to be fun.

GH85Carrera 04-14-2012 08:00 PM

Yep same here. I like my old school 911. I could buy a new turbo and be real fast. I don't want to spend the money.

Porsche-poor 04-14-2012 08:30 PM

except for mine is dead. charging as I type but......
