maybe D you should go spend a couple of months there, if you can get away from work for a while, long service leave or something, and just see if you like it.

But not having any friends there does make it hard, no support network.

A seachange happens a lot in Oz, people want to move closer to the seaside, where the weather is usually milder than it is inland.

i don't have the financial means to just bug out for a couple of months to test the waters. i think my plan, which is a two to four year plan, is to get licensed in georgia and texas, then get a travel job and find a permanent landing place via that route. i'd probably have to take my MIL with us. seriously. she does a hell of a lot with our son.

When I moved to Oklahoma it used up ALL of my savings and it sucked moving to a place that I had no friends at all. The biggest reason I chose Oklahoma is my grandparents were here and I knew I could go hang out there on Sunday and they would ask if I had time to stay for dinner. I loved my grandparents dearly, but they were not a lot of fun to hang out with. Lawrence Welk was torture to me.

Fortunately I was a Porsche Club member. I went to every event and quickly made several friends. I still have some friends that I met through the Porsche Club back in 1978.

Moving to a city where you did not go to school, or know anyone is tough.

a little background on me and the missus: we both moved a lot as kids. i went to four elementary schools and lived in about 7 different cities, my wife moved several times growing up. thus, we both are reluctant to move from our comfort zone. we've been married for over 18 years, lived in one apartment for about two months and left because it was a dive, and lived in another apartment for over eight years and our house ever since.

Evening All

We had a sea change last Saturday - 38mm of rain in 20 minutes. First flow of our normally dry Todd River for 7 months. Woohoo!

Evening Y'all
D I know it is a stretch but look at hospitals in the mid atlantic area, lots of research places here and most are state jobs. U.Va. is one and there are several in N.C.

Phffft amateur! I went to 11 schools in 12 years of school. We moved from state to state. I could NOT even understand my teacher when we moved from Hawaii to Alabama. My parents made their 18th move when they moved into the current house where my dad lives now.

It's not called the red center for nothing

Evening Azzy/Rick/Glen/D

That red dirt gets into, and stains everything.

Yeah, it was a nice storm Glen. We sat out the back and had a beer or two while it was pissing down. Cooled the arvo down nicely.

My area has a great deal of red clay and when I travel to other parts of the country people ask me what that redish crap is on my boots. I just say dirt and watch the strange looks

well, my parents weren't military. it is very disruptive, all that moving around, as you know.

I found this little girl on evilbay today. She's a little over priced. but not too badly for Oz. As a UK import, It'd be a reasonable buy here for $20-25K. I just suggested it to Sharyn for this years Christmas present to ourselves - pretty reasonable idea I thought. Just got back a big fat emailed NO!

Ahh yes, that must be it.

Although a targa would fit in well around here. Good weather (most of the time) for top off cruising.

The rag top doesn't last very long here - the sun kills them and their plastic windows.
