Good morning gents.
I got my new Dell netbook yesterday. 2 Gigs of ram, Intel Atom Z520 1.33 GHz 160 GB hard drive, Bluetooth yada yada yada. It has been so busy at work I have not had much time to play with it. I am still trying to figure out Ubuntu. It came with Ubuntu 8.04. I will upgrade to 9.1 after I get things figured out. I need to find a good backup program to make a full backup. |
I have dual-boot ubuntu on this laptop. I only use it when I need to compile something or run some free stuff not for windows.
I do not like the standard taskbar/gui stuff, especially how it takes up a bar at the bottom and top of the screen. For a small resolution laptop, that's no good. I know there are ways out there to customize the GUI however you like it, but I don't have time to dick with that stuff. Thats how I define the linux experience: dicking with stuff 90% of the time. |
you got the wrong laptop Glen.. should ave gotten the 11Z instead... decent screen.. decent cpu... only 100 bucks more in the price department... my netbook is faster then my P4 desktop @ work

I'm thinking (really) about getting one of these:
http://oldcomputers.net/pics/portfolio-hand.jpg They pop up on ebay every now and then, found one in the UK for like $30. They have serial port adapters. Runs an MS-DOS compatible OS. I'm all about 1991 tech. I could type notes on it, which is all I ever would use a netbook for. Transfer to my PC via a serial to USB cable and telnet. I'm also jonesin to find an old 80's GRiD laptop for fun. They are pricey even today though. |
My netbook is mostly for email & web surfing. My laptop is OLD and weighs a ton. I am sure I will find more uses for it the new toy. My wife played Freecell on it last night.

11z weighs 3 pounds... i doubt them atoms are even a pound lighter
|
workweek is over
and as it happens, already did most of my work for my home... cleaning, washing, dishes, thrash can... so i can really chill for the weekend... i'm inclined to get ****faced later today... dunno why, it just feels like the right thing to do |

I'm not getting Shidfaced, I'm going out to dinner...
No need to get jealous, it is a diner amongst friends, no kissing or touching will be involved. Afterwards, I'm playing poker with the boys. |
Poke-her is even more fun than poker :)
|
poker is a sucker's game, i'll take drunk blackjack in a casino any day over Poker.
Every time i play poker, there's some lil b1tch whining about how it's not right to leave the table right after grabbing a couple of big hands in a row because the others aren't broke yet and haven't been gotten a chance to win back some of their money... I'm a betting man, and Rule #1 is knowing when to quit betting and go home. |
so the first glass of scotch had a real good buzz,
2nd one , i figured i just ain't used to drink no more, not enough practice, figured i'de be done for in 10 minutes. but now the 3rd one is down, and the 4th... going on 5th... there's this a second wind thing that kicked in... Something tells me that there training and practice don't matter as much as pure talent... |
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Weekend. |
Rock and roll!
|
Best part is I have nothing scheduled to do. I might, just might do nothing this weekend. we'll see how I feel when I get up tomorrow
|
Well guys... Sid got a job... :D
Not the one I applied for either... Another pharmacist found out I was looking for a job... Told me to come see him... He is who I did my observation with in HS... His two biggest concerns were my schedule and when I could start... I will spend most of my time in the pharmacy but I will also run the main register and the radioshack part when they are short handed... He is going to try to get me certified as a Pharmacy tech ASAP. |
Good deal.
|
Again, congrats! Bust yer ass in the beginning. Over and above... That means, don't walk out the door, just because it is closing time. :)
|
Don't worry dave.... I learned work ethic from my parents... who work WAY too hard...
|
