strange place Vegas, I just had to go and see, but now I have been I am in no rush to return, although as a fly in point and to then take off for the rest of the surrounding area it was great. Would love to go back to Arizona, and Nevada, still soooo much to see and do.

Just worked out that the next big adventure next year I have been planning is at the same time as the Sturgis Rallly and we will be in South Dakota only about 50 miles away, so guess we just have to go. Hadn't even realised that we were going in that direction, never really taken much notice of when the Sturgis was on. But another think will go off the bucket list.

I agree, vegas is a rather strange place. This was my first trip, but I'm sure nowhere near my last. I'm not much of a gambler so we just wandered around. Did check out the auto collection in the quad, and they had some cool stuff.

Just a warning about SD during Rally time, I was there this year. It will by nye impossible to get a hotel if you wait until closer to book. Tons of bikes everywhere, not sure I'd try to venture into sturgis proper, by YMMV. Rushmore is really cool though, and the road in is major fun, I just wish I hadn't been in an SUV pulling a trailer... If you have some time there are some pretty cool cave systems about 30 miles SW of Rushmore.

Oh and fair warning, I80 across SD goes on... and on.... and on.... Longest damn day of driving ever.

Went for a nice drive in the GTS today. Really enjoyed it, but still can't heel and toe on downshifts.

RKDinOKC 11-17-2013 07:21 PM

Ah ha ha ha ha…can't breath and cryin laughed so hard.

There was a big a racket, then the cat shot out of the kitchen and rocketed around the house bouncing off the walls running and jumping all over the place. He had gotten into the lower cabinet where the dog food is and got a sticky mouse trap stuck to his rear foot. Liked to never caught him to take it off.

ha! curiosity and the cat.... those sticky traps are nasty.

GoPro fell off my 911 right before one of the sessions. I had mounted it to the front valance. Bummer that it fell off before I launched. I think my buddy ran over it with his right front tire (he was behind me). I did get to inspect his undercarriage. :D I'll post the little clip later.

Monday does not suck, it's your job that sucks.

GH85Carrera 11-18-2013 06:48 AM

Hey Rick, I have an engine question.

My 911 engine developed a slight leak on one cylinder head. It is kinda like being slightly infected with the flu. It for sure means a full top end and I really figure a complete overhaul. I am infected with the while you are in there genictics.

Once everythig is apart, machined and cleaned up and while I am in there I was thinking of going to 964 cams. I will want to keep the stock fuel injection setup. What do you think of 964 cams in a 3.2?

Porsche-poor 11-18-2013 09:02 AM

I think you are already in trouble and the wallet is going to be sore.

GH85Carrera 11-18-2013 10:03 AM

Naaa, I don't keep my checks in my wallet.

The heads are all done.

Expensive aluminum shaving.

nynor 11-18-2013 10:24 AM

glen, are you saying you already have this apart and being machined?!

GH85Carrera 11-18-2013 10:49 AM

Yep. It is in pieces. Lots of pieces. Waiting on parts and trying to decide if I stick with the original cams which are fine or "while I am in there" regrinding the cams to 964 profile.

The heads sure are pretty.

RKDinOKC 11-18-2013 10:58 AM

Upgraded my GTS cams to GT cams while the motor was out doing the valve job from the cam breaking. Like the 964 cam option, the GT cams are considered the optimum power from the factory cams avaiabe.

On and unrelated to cams, but maybe a Monday thing…

Got to go in to the company campus just to pee in a cup with a guy standing there watching me this morning. They are drug testing all the office workers today.

Thankful my job is NOT watching guys pee for drug tests.

I am oh so very lucky. A good friend has all the machine tools right in his main barn. He was between projects so he just got right on my engine. He has built over 1,000 911 engines so he is not a beginer like me. The tough part is keeping him from going overboard.

He let me drive his 78 911 which is a 3.0 liter engine. It pulls as hard as a 3.2. Since it was his car I did not push too hard. We swapped seats and he took off. After he was rolling he stood on it and I watched in horror as he when right past the redline and ran it up to 7,800 RPM.

He did it several times. He said it is no problem with the right internals. That engine has 30,000 miles on it and he does that all the time.

I am sure I don't want to spend that much but "while I am in there" there area few tricks we can do for no real extra cost. Nothing goes out to be done. He does it all right there.
