in the same sentence.... uh, huh huh, huh huh, huh huh

i am so annoyed. it was a beautiful day, with a high near 60F and sunny, and i sat in the house all day, sick as a dog. i really need to finish sorting the battery tray in the 951!

Rick V 11-17-2013 04:30 PM

Turbo charged hell hole?

nynor 11-17-2013 04:39 PM

its not bad. i caught it well before it was seriously problematic. no holes through the metal, the metal is still pretty good. there was a spot about the size of dollar bill that the paint had come up and there was surface rust. i sanded and removed all the loose paint, then primed it. now i am coating it with a rubberized sealant. although, i am not super happy with the sealant, so i might be scraping it off.

my friend's 944 had a rust hole all the way through and it was leaking a little water into the interior, right where the DME is. he went crazy on that project and ending up fabricating a new tray and putting it in there. it looks good, too.

I am not a big fan of using undercoating over a treated surface after it has had rust. If you have any rust left you are just going to seal it in and when it comes back it is going to be bad. Personally I would clean, hit it with rust kill then POR15

nynor 11-17-2013 05:36 PM

well, i was leaning towards scraping it off and and starting over. do they have por15 at lowes?

Rick V 11-17-2013 05:41 PM

Stop Rust with POR-15® - We Know What Permanent Means!

nynor 11-17-2013 05:55 PM

it appears that some of the local auto paint supply shops have it. i'll make some phone calls tomorrow.

i have a feeling that the wire wheel is going to be my friend.

nynor 11-17-2013 06:10 PM

mmm.... dinner of saltines and water.

azzarule 11-17-2013 06:36 PM

Dee I hope you are feeling better tomorrow.

POR-15 is the bees, I wire wheeled and cleaned and scraped and cleaned and POR-15'd the whole floor pan, rear seat wells, and rear parcel shelf of the 72, this was after replacing the rear seat wells and parcel shelf with panels from a donor car, they were sound but had surface rust, but after cleaning up and wire wheeling everything I POR-15'd it all. Hope it lasts another 30 years.

I caught mine before it had become anything more than bad surface rust. Wire brushed it until it was nice and shiny all around and then hit with some high zinc cold galvanizing primer and covered with red paint. Seems to have stopped in its tracks. Now I pour some water down the drain occasionally to make sure its not plugged.

Sitting in the the airport in Vegas. Flight delayed a little, but I still wouldn't have been able to see Thuy cross the finish line. I saw her off at the start of the race and then took the 45min long 2mile cab ride.... Closing the strip makes for hellish traffic!

azzarule 11-17-2013 06:49 PM

you should have walked to the airport Sid!

azzarule 11-17-2013 06:50 PM

not much to do in the Vegas airport eh! reminded me of one of the seedy casinos, without the drinks and places to eat.

porsche4life 11-17-2013 06:51 PM

Would have been a wee bit difficult to cross the interstate! ;) And my lazy butt was tired of walking. We walked all over yesterday and I realized my tennis shoes are dead. So today I was wearing my boots. Which aren't exactly walking shoes... ;)

strange place Vegas, I just had to go and see, but now I have been I am in no rush to return, although as a fly in point and to then take off for the rest of the surrounding area it was great. Would love to go back to Arizona, and Nevada, still soooo much to see and do.

Just worked out that the next big adventure next year I have been planning is at the same time as the Sturgis Rallly and we will be in South Dakota only about 50 miles away, so guess we just have to go. Hadn't even realised that we were going in that direction, never really taken much notice of when the Sturgis was on. But another think will go off the bucket list.

azzarule 11-17-2013 06:56 PM

time for bed, night all.

Midget gets his braces off tomorrow, doesn't mean of course that I don't have to keep paying for them. sigh
