Jeff, you are such a funny bastard!

Joe you have enough weapons already!

David, you are lucky you don't live on the same continent as Jeff! It stinks there :)

He let me drive his 78 911 which is a 3.0 liter engine. It pulls as hard as a 3.2. Since it was his car I did not push too hard. We swapped seats and he took off. After he was rolling he stood on it and I watched in horror as he when right past the redline and ran it up to 7,800 RPM.

He did it several times. He said it is no problem with the right internals. That engine has 30,000 miles on it and he does that all the time.

I am sure I don't want to spend that much but "while I am in there" there area few tricks we can do for no real extra cost. Nothing goes out to be done. He does it all right there.

The redlines on the early motors (7300) are based on valve springs. If you get modern, stiffer springs you can prevent valve float up to 8000 rpm and beyond. If you look at the mean piston speed of the early engines they are quite moderate even at redline.

Redline on later motors I think is based on the CIS capabilities.

Not really, jist a mossy 500, a war beaten 94k, a pre64 Winnie 94, an 1862 Colt (honest to god made in 1962) percussion rifle, the P 938 and now this project ar pistol.

For some reason, noveske barrels tend to 'fool' the round into better ballistics than the size should allow.
I decided to build this as a true CQB SHTF weapon. Max service range under 100 yds and normally sub 50. I ended up going 5.56 despite slightly lesser ballistics because of ammo availability. This is a true purpose built rig for me, don't want it for hunting, long range etc....

When the SHTF I'm gunna let all you trigger happy rednecks take each other out and then I'll have free reign over supplies.

Morning Y'all

slodave 11-19-2013 02:29 AM

It happened... I wish it were more dramatic. Next time.

Mornin' y'all.

Your GoPro sure gets around, Dave. The underneath shots of the competition are great!

slodave 11-19-2013 02:57 AM

I try to provide a different perspective of things. Maybe find some hidden issues with the cars the owner wasn't aware of.

slodave 11-19-2013 03:00 AM

Didn't fall off this time..

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/OfemAZjVswY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I did toot my own horn.

Jim Richards 11-19-2013 03:01 AM

Yeah, the crotch cam looking up at the driver is pretty slick, too. ;)

slodave 11-19-2013 03:11 AM

I do my best. ;)

Cool vids Dave.

GH85Carrera 11-19-2013 05:17 AM

Dave, are you guys running really late or real early? It looks like the sun is close to the horizon. We have had a few all day autocrosses. One time we were picking up the cones after sunset and it was settig real dark real fast. It looks like a fun course.

GH85Carrera 11-19-2013 05:30 AM

Good Tuesday morning.

More progress on the engine.

The case is done. My engine builder like to trim down the corners on the case.

It allows the inside of the engine breathe better. It does not remove much metal and no strength it just cleans up the edges so the air can flow inside the case.

We are about done until the parts arrive.

Jim Richards 11-19-2013 05:36 AM

My engine builder did the same thing to the case of my old 2.7RS-spec engine.

Andy911sc 11-19-2013 05:48 AM

Morning Everyone.

Glen and Jim, does that have any performance increase or changes?

Jim Richards 11-19-2013 05:54 AM

I believe it's supposed to; however, I don't recall how much. Probably only a little bit.

GH85Carrera 11-19-2013 05:55 AM

It would be difficult to say just how much difference it makes. With the 964 cams and stronger valve springs the cutting on the case allows higher RPM to flow better. Even if it is just 2 HP it is an improvement.

I joked with him that I want 1,000 HP and better gas mileage all for 100 bucks. I really don't expect to have a very big seat of the pants difference. It is pretty much a while I am in there thing.
