14* this morn........but the coffee is hot.

Jim Richards 11-21-2013 03:41 AM

While walking the dog this morning, a stray dog came up and started hanging around with us. No collar, no ID, but well behaved, so someone must have trained the dog. So, home came home with us. I fed him and he has a place to curl up in our den. I'm waiting on Animal Control to come and pick him up this AM. Kiera, the attack schnauzer isn't too thrilled about sharing her condo with another dog. Especially a boy that hasn't been neutered who likes to mount her.

Richard, the blue stuff on the heads is mostly for the valve seat lapping. The back of the valves and the seats have to mate perfectly and he uses the blue dye to see what needs work.

One neat thing about 911 heads is there is not a lot of porting necessary. He cleaned up any and all sharp edges. If you took out the valve you can just about pass a golf ball through the ports.

Two of the Dilivar head studs were not tight. The studs on the cylinder that was leaking. All of those studs are in the trash can. New Raceware head studs and rod bolts are supposed to come in today. If all the rest of the parts arrive as expected he may have the engine finished this weekend.

He only does this in his spare time. He has a full time job. He does a Rickey and goes in at 5:00 AM for his full time job.

Can't beat 14 but the 27 here has me rethinking getting up today.

GH85Carrera 11-21-2013 07:39 AM

That cold crap is coming to visit us tonight. Possible sleet or freezing rain overnight and tomorrow. :(

Jim Richards 11-21-2013 07:48 AM

We're going to get the crappy weather later into the weekend. :(

The animal control officer came by a little while ago to pick up the stray with no collar/ID that "followed us home" early this morning. My stereotype of a "dog catcher" was shattered...she was a cute, young woman and she seemed like a real dog-friendly person. At the shelter, they'll scan the dog for a microchip and, if they detect one, they'll be able to contact the owner. Otherwise, they give 3 days for the owner to report their dog missing and come identify him. If not, then he's up for adoption. I hope someone, the owner or a new owner, ends up with that dog. He was nice and friendly, and had good manners inside the house.

All that skirt porting is nice, but dija cc the heads so all the cylinders are the same exact volume? The shop that did the valve job on my GTS cc'ed the heads. Makes up for any difference due to more or less volume caused by seating the valves.

Gonna shave the heads to increase compression any? There is a limit on the 928 heads how much you can shave or deck the heads before you have to start fly cutting the pistons for valve clearance.

Some of the supercharge 928 guys use thicker head gaskets to decrease compression a little so they can run a little more boost.

Yea, he measures everything.

It was guys with beards night. It was tough to keep the women at bay. It was a constant stream of women wanting Sid's autograph thinking he was a movie star and wanting Richard's autograph thinking he was from Duck dynasty. The other women thought I was Tom Hanks.

Glen,

What happened to the demonstration pick we took for Markus???? I mean, you did have those girls, Sid, and me sign a model's waiver and all (never knew Richard was a notary)!

Thanks guys! It was a fun way to spend an otherwise boring trip. I greatly enjoyed our time, the womens (Sid, seriously, you have to tone it down a bit further so us old guys can compete!!!!!), learning about LPG, and seeing a really nice (and well developed) set of cars. Will have to do that again, preferably when driving the '83 and not hauling it.

He is working a Chebby 350 project of his own as well. He has 6 or 7 small blocks in one corner of the barn. He has a 356 he is restoring in the small barn next to his 911.

He has a 64 Rambler that he is going to restore.

When I bought new wheels for my 20 year old lawn mower I had to have him machine them to make them fit the hub. They don't make the old style and all that is available is the new style.

No doubt he could build any engine.

GH85Carrera 11-21-2013 09:37 AM

Hey David, how did the trip go? Did you get that load moved OK?

GH85Carrera 11-21-2013 02:44 PM

Oh my gosh the thread was on page TWO!

Sid, I received you reservation to the club Christmas party today. I am impressed that you are bringing Eva Mendes. She is cute.

GH85Carrera 11-21-2013 02:46 PM

Today when I went to lunch it was 68 degrees. Right now it is 36 freaking degrees. Dang Canadians and their cold air!

i have been asking myself that same question for years. i know the answer, for myself, too: my parents dragged me, kicking and screaming, from kentucky and i haven't had the good sense to move back south.

Evening Y'all. Well today I realized why I drive a Porsche. So I can sit dead still in traffic because others can not drive. Screw this getting home late because of some non driver. Too bad I didn't drive Peggy today. Ida just jumped in the median and went on down the road

I was just wondering if you had gotten that yet! :D

And ya... Tweeze couldn't make it out, so I had to settle... ;)

So how formal is this affair? Do I need to go full Formal Ryan Gosling?
