No it wouldn't trap any moisture, as the vinyl sticks to the car leaving no room for air or moisture to penetrate. I am also not taking the car to bare metal, just making it smooth because the vinyl will show any imperfections in the paint (stone chips, deep stratches, pealed layers). I will use a spray can of primer to make sure there is a layer of primer there before placing the vinyl and to help with smoothing out all the imperfections. I have a lot of stone chips on the front and flag mirrors. Plus I want to make sure there is no more peeling paint as this would cause the adhesive on the vinyls to pull away.

My vinyl is sitting at the door at home waiting for me to get back from vacation.
I'll probably give it a week or so for the temps to come up.

Sid/tweeze, that's friggin hilarious!

Andy... If you of it use good vinyl. If it's less than $200 for a roll it's not the good stuff...

Oh and the front fenders on a 911 are a *****! ;).

Andy911sc 02-19-2014 11:04 AM

I was going to us the 3M brand. I was also going to remove the front fenders, bumpers, mirrors, door handles, sunroof, and deck grill to make it easy on myself, plus with wet sanding everything smooth. My front bumper is really stone chipped up. I don't know if the PO was a tail gaiter or loved to take this thing off road...lol

I am going to have to look for it, but I think I recently saw a youtube video from motor trend or some show that was showing vinyl wrap application and it happened to be an 80's 911. They showed the detail to deal with the head light areas.

Andy911sc 02-19-2014 11:07 AM

My car is a dark red, I was think the 3M dark metallic red for the car and carbon fiber for the hood and mirrors

Sounds like you've got a handle on it then. If you need tips on the roof and few other... Interesting areas got me up. Yours not being a 930 should help. All those bug ass curves were not fun to get vinyl stuck on

Andy911sc 02-19-2014 12:50 PM

definitely, thanks.

I am just getting tired of seeing peeling clear coat and I want a cheaper option right now just to get me through the next 4-5 years. It's only a few spots.

The forecast looks like it might get a tad windy tomorrow. Sustained winds 40 to 50 and gusts to 60. It will be a short skirt warning day.

Evening Y'all.
Sometimes I am amazed at how the universe provides (since it so rarely does)
My daughter in law finally payed me beck the three hundred dollars she has owed me for a few months, that was a nice surprise.
My daughter needs a car some kind of bad.
My service writer bought a used car from work today and they were only going to give her teo hundred dollars for her Accord, I bought it for three hundred. It needs axles but for the price I couldn't pass it up. 1989 Accord LXI hatch with a new trans and only 125 on the clock.
Let the Honda jokes commence, i may own it but I ain't gonna drive it.

GH85Carrera 02-19-2014 03:35 PM

So she can take it to the dealer for service. ;)

Rick V 02-19-2014 03:44 PM

We actually are a Honda dealer, and Dodge and of course Subi

Noah930 02-19-2014 03:46 PM

Didn't know you were a Honda wrench now, Rick.

Can I ask you a question about my Civic?

Rick V 02-19-2014 03:47 PM

I am wrenching on Subi but let it rip.

Noah930 02-19-2014 03:59 PM

'08 Civic LX. I have a metallic clunk coming from the right rear. Sounds like a heat shield is loose and contacting the exhaust/muffler (but that's not the case or I wouldn't be writing this). It rattles particularly on small stutter bumps (like when going over ripples or cracks in pavement or uneven pavement), but surprisingly isn't so bad on larger bumps (like speedbumps). On the highway it's usually absent (as long as the pavement is smooth). But on the surface streets it rattles over every crack. Makes no difference if I'm on the brakes or not (drum rears). I've crawled underneath the car and everything is bolted down solidly. No rust. Tapping on things with a mallet reveals nothing odd-sounding. The car drives and handles fine. Any TSBs on this?

Rick V 02-19-2014 04:02 PM

TSB's I have no idea, I work on Subi but it sounds like a swaybar end link. I will ask tomorrow if one of the Honda boys has seen it.
Just slap a couple of stickers on it and you should be all good, Honda gets and extra five HP per sticker

RKDinOKC 02-19-2014 04:04 PM

Did you check the trunk?

Rick V 02-19-2014 04:05 PM

A golfball in the little side pockets of a trunk will do some funny things

slodave 02-19-2014 04:11 PM

After a little work this morning, I headed out into the hills...

I don't think I've been to the old set since they were still filming back in the 80's.

RKDinOKC 02-19-2014 04:17 PM

Ut oh, someone took and posted a picture of Glen and I's cars at lunch yesterday.

Looks like I need some air in that front tire.
