I'm in the same boat Glen. I think I'm going to go to 17" twists, but haven't started sourcing the parts to do it yet!
|
Not sure what size you need, but they are a good tire. Better than the Goodyears I am currently running and they are really good in the wet. Looking to get a set this year for the Cobra since all the people I know that have switched have said they won't go back.
CR6ZZ | Avon Motorsport They have a distributor on each coast. |

I don't know if there's anything in this list for you Glen? Porsche published it last August. Morning gents. Tuesday, one more day closer to retirement training. :) |
Thanks Jeff, they just list the same Pirelli-6000 tires. They are only S rated. That may well be what I have to buy.

Got a set of Carrera iIIs in 18x8et57 and 18x10et58 for sale since I finally got my custom wheels from the re-finishers.
Top is new custom 2 piece wheels. Took over a year to get the outside lip made for the fronts to get an et of 57. http://www.zipbang.com/928gts/roockwheels.jpg Bottom are the Carrera IIIs Good wheel for 944 Turbo is the Carrera Lightweights if you can find them...There are very light weight for an 18 in wheel. http://www.zipbang.com/944/944newwheels.jpg |
Will they fit the M1078?
|
Think you would want something a little bigger for the M1

Did 18s for better tire choices.
According to a tire rack study, they had to use lower rated 18s to match available 17s. Then the 17 and 18 were even performance wise. Most 18 compounds are faster than available 17. Going to 19 the tires got slower. 15 and 16 were faster than 17, but good luck finding some of those with any sort of half way sticky compound. When I had my White 951S I was able to run R1 stickies on 17 in wheels. |
Eagle F1s are still out there in 16 and seem t stick pretty damn well for the lotus

Stijn!!
There are several autocross specials I could use. Those are NFG for highway use in the rain. I have been writing letters and whining to PCA national about the autocross class I am stuck in. They finally this year are supposed to go to a tread wear 180 or above to run in production class. Right now my tires are tread wear 300. If I go to the p-6000 I will have to go down one size in width. The selection for 15 inch tires just sucks.
|
The 15 were .1 seconds faster 0-60 than 16, and 16 .1 faster than 17, 18 same as 17 and 19 .1 slower. They claimed because the tires were progressively heavier for size and the 18's worse rubber was better than the smaller sizes was why their 0-60 same as 17.
The g loading was .1 more for each tire size from 15 to 18. Claimed this was due to wider section widths of the larger tires. if you want your 944 to be faster get some of the 16 in forged club sport 951 wheels. Super light. But you also gotta find some sticky 16 in wheels. When I was beating everyone in my white 951 i had the forged club sports and was running Yokohama 034 racing rain tires. I liked the way they kept grabbing thru the slides and drifts were slicks let go. The slicks had a hard or abrupt edge at the limit of grip where the rain tires were soft edged or gradually lost grip at the limit of grip. My mechanic recommended them to match my driving style over slicks. The rain tires did howl like a banshe on the highway though. But I never had to worry about driving home in the rain:;) When Lindseys bought my white 951 they changed to the cup car suspension and slicks, then did not do nearly as well at the one autocross they took it to then dubbed it their street test car. |
If I sound like I am rambling on a bit, I got that nasty won't go away flu from the social worker that comes to check on my Mom. It looks even worse because Pepper keeps digging kleenex out of the trash and shredding them all over the house.
The flu has settled in my sinuses, very painful. Even worse, I tried to go to the store in the cayenne in all the snow we had. The cayenne did good, I didn't do so well, missed the drive into the gas station and hit the curb hard, bent a rim and it started making air leaking noises. Since I am feeling so sick I just had a wrecker haul the whole thing off to the shop. Wasn't much of a dent, but enough to loose air. Bet the wheel shop is busy. Mechanic is working on best and worst case scenarios for rings on the 928. Either rings and go, or bore, pistons and rings depending on the shape of the cylinders (scratched or ovaled). Think there is a machine shop in town that does alusil honing. |
I assume there is not going to be any while your in there?
Morning Y'all |
Not going to be any what while in where?

Main thing on this trip in is to reduce oil usage and improve compression. It's at 130-150 hot and should be at 210. And it's using a quart every 275 miles. It was starting to oil foul plugs. Leak down was 40 and thru the rings.
When I did the valves I put in a hotter cam. I also have some level II headers to help the cams breath and it needs bigger injectors. The stock injectors are now over 80% duty cycle with just the cams. When I did the valves the cylinders looked nice and smooth no scratching or scoring, but they could be ovaled causing the oil usage. Figure I get the compression back up with the headers and cams it should make 380-400 rwhp. What does our resident master mechanic Rick think? |
Well if you are over clocking your injectors I would get some bigger ones.
No My WYIT question was are you going to bump up the compression with some different pistons, if you have ever thought about stroking this bird now would be the time, I just assumed that you were going to be as minimally invasive here due to the fact that stock ones are worth more. I guess it all depends on your long term plans and desires for the car. I for one would love to have a really ragged out 928 that I could strip rip and build a monster with, Value be dammed and just go full retard on the thing. |
Have a friend in Wichita that. Spent 33K on a stroker motor. Has Individual throttle bodies and pulled 610 rwhp first bang out of the box pre-tune. Built to red line at 8K. Won't tell anyone what the numbers really are but it is a beast. He doesn't ever plan to sell it.
There is another guy in Texas that has done similar, but also integrated the valve train from the 968 to get variocam. If I remember correctly he cemented the block to make it stronger and runs some wild compression. It is a beast as well. He likes to go pick on vipers and GTRs. There is a guy in England that is pushing his 928 on the bottle(s) and getting some really fast times. The problem is finding a good 928 stroker crank. They are rare as hens teeth. Want my to look stock, but be fast. Guess headers kind a ruin that though. The 928 hot rod gurus say Cams, and headers are pretty much best bang for the buck. Then superchargers. Then there is a guy also doing a really really nicely done twin turbo kit. But boost tends to make you crank it till it blows up. |
