It is the first time the stove has been on in many months. It is nice to see that it still works. ;)

Mechanic texted me, cylinders look good!

Porsche-poor 09-15-2015 03:48 PM

how long before you have her back?

Rick V 09-15-2015 04:08 PM

Evening Y'all,
Scared a mess of deer up on my hike tonight, scared Beth half to death.
Richard if your luck is like mine you will get the 928 back one day after the first S-fall

RKDinOKC 09-15-2015 07:04 PM

I hope it's done in time to get some break-in done before driving it to Austin for the F1 race.

Going walking in the country I can never get used to scaring up a covey of quail.

We dust out the oven about once per year. The cleaning lady dusts off the stove top. The microwave gets lots of use.

Morning all SmileWavy

Jim Richards 09-16-2015 03:57 AM

Mmmm, those look tasty. I'll be right over!

Outback Porsche 09-16-2015 05:08 AM

Too late Jim - BURP!

Righto, who's coming to Sydney weekend after next? I've just booked a room at the Sheraton to go all rockstar in for two nights. :D

GH85Carrera 09-16-2015 05:36 AM

Good Humpday folks.

The new wheels and tires are on. They do completely fill the fenders.

Some rear rubber.

From a 225 to a 255. Lots more rear rubber. I know my rear tires wore out twice as fast at the fronts for some mysterious reason. I figure extraterrestrials sneak in the garage at night and harvest rear rubber from 911s. I can't think of any other logical reason.

Those tires and wheels are HEAVY. I will have to weigh them when I take them back off. It must make a massive difference at high speeds in a heavy braking situation. That much extra mass spinning is a LOT more to slow down. Last year going over the hill at Laguna Secca at triple digit speeds I could really tell the brakes were working hard with my tiny lightweight 15s.

I will not be keeping thees wheels. Just not the style I want. I could buy them for $500 but I will use that to go towards a set of wheels I want.

Jim Richards 09-16-2015 05:43 AM

Glen, what are the front/rear sizes exactly? Also, what widths are the front/rear wheels. Thanks. Those look good on your car, although I'd probably look at raising the rear and lowering the front a bit.

GH85Carrera 09-16-2015 06:32 AM

The tires on there right now are 205-50-17 & 225-40-17s.

My current setup is a 205-50-15 front and 225-50-15 rear. Those are really a little short but it was the desperation looking for anything at all that fit with high speed ratings and the ability to drive in the rain on the highway. I think I bought the last two 225s in the nation when I found a supplier willing to ship me some. They will be worn out before my long journey to visit Pete.

Fuchs is making a 17 now for the 964 but from my understanding I would have to run a one inch spacer in the front and 3 inch spacer in the rear to make them fit. I might live with a one inch spacer but a three inch space is just not a thing I want to live with.

Jim Richards 09-16-2015 06:48 AM

I'm surprised that the rear tires are 225/40s. I would've expected either 225/45 or 255/40 (on wider wheels) to get the same height/circumference.

RKDinOKC 09-16-2015 06:52 AM

Those aren't turbo twists, they are C2 Turbos (according to wheel enhancemnt). I like the C2 Turbos. Think they look really good on a 944 or 928.

The reason the rear tires were twice as fast as the fronts is...

When you accelerate and the weight transfers to the rear and it squats, when it squats the wheels toe out a little. When you lift/brake the rear lifts and the wheels toe in a little. That toe change scrubs the tires enough they wear faster.

Cup Design 92 wheels

I don't know what car they came off of. They were in a stack at a friends place. He said they would fit and allowed me to borrow them for a while as a test. If they were Fuchs look alike I would have bought them.

RKDinOKC 09-16-2015 07:12 AM

I thought the 16 in of those were called Cups, the 17 in were Cup 2s, and the rounded ones like came on my 928 GTS Cup 3s. But Wheel Enhancement is calling the 16 in 993 and C2 5-Spoke, the 17 C2 Turbo, and the rounded spoke ones like came on my GTS 993s.

Is Lindsey Racing still re-barreling Fuchs with larger diameter wheels? I understood you could supply the Fuchs and they would cut the centers out and weld them into new barrels. Seems there were a lot more people wanting it done than they could find fuchs to do.

GH85Carrera 09-16-2015 07:31 AM

Ye, Mike is still doing that but finding a donor 16 inch wheel is really hard.

If I had a set of 16 x 6 I would get Mike to make me a set of 17s.

Oh Haha 09-16-2015 07:35 AM

Those are obviously replicas as they have the correct offset to fit the torsion bar 911s.

JMO but I think your 911 looks better with fuchs.

Yep, they are replicas. And Yep, I agree, better with Fuchs. If I can just find them in the right size.

The new real Fuchs in 17s are right at 3 grand for a set of wheels.
I think I would pay that if I did not need the huge wheel spacers. To get the lighter and stronger real forged wheel would be worth it.

16.5 lbs front and 17lbs rear. So close yet so far
