In the movies and on TV shows the passenger is always some attractive witty person. Every commercial flight I have been on I am seated next to Andre the Giant sized men with shoulders like a linebacker. The dude next to me on the flight from Washington DC to Dallas had to been sedated, narcoleptic. He fell asleep before the other passengers were all seated. He slept through the take off and the landing. I had the aisle seat, he was in the middle and some poor slob was jammed against the window. The sleeper had shoulders that filled his seating area and ours as well.He was likely 6 foot 4 or so.

Porsche-poor 07-18-2018 09:43 AM

Yeah I hate that to. Never fails that I get seated with crazy people.

And they all say the same thing after they are seated next to you! :p

I'm betting that they hold meetings in private just to plan such encounters with the public.

RKDinOKC 07-18-2018 10:04 AM

Since I never get seated next to those kind of people, I must be designated as one of those kinds of people.

However, I do not fly very often, have not flown since before they started the TSA stuff. So you guys are either safe, or it's about that time again.

Outback Porsche 07-18-2018 10:09 AM

Its great to be home though.

Now I need to battle the body clock for a few days till its back in sync with this time zone.

flipper35 07-18-2018 10:21 AM

So, we are driving into work and there is this extremely slow car up ahead and I think back in the the thread when you OK people talk about drivers hired to get in your way. As I get closer I see the plates are from OK. You all need to keep your jam car drivers down there!

On our trip home we got behind someone that HAD to be a impostor. They had Texas plates, but were driving a Prius. The legal speed limit is 75. That dumb ass is going 65 side by side with a 18 wheeler. 99.99% of Texas drivers are driving over the speed limit, and often fly past at 15 over. It took several miles to have the idiot pass the truck.

We are trying to export the idiots out of state.

flipper35 07-18-2018 12:08 PM

Those exports should be illegal! Unless you are sending them to Jeff, he will straighten them out.

RKDinOKC 07-18-2018 12:18 PM

There were a bunch of blockers making the 4 mile drive home from the eye doc's yesterday. Even though I was sticking to the speed limit I downshifted and zipped around weaving through the designated morons. Not only was it kind of fun, think the 928 enjoyed too, it didn't stall at any of the lights. At one point went under an highway overpass and it gave my inner teenager a thrill to roll down the window, push the clutch in, and make those loud roaring noises with my right foot.

RKDinOKC 07-18-2018 12:24 PM

For that time zone thing...
Just drink until you pass out, repeating until you wake up at the correct time.
Then make sure it is very quiet for a few hours.

I may be in the mood to have a crack at that tonight :D

RKDinOKC 07-19-2018 06:02 AM

My doc say that resetting your biological clock is best done by just getting up at the correct time and staying up, but for me it's a lot easier if I can get enough sleep before.

GH85Carrera 07-19-2018 06:37 AM

Good morning.

I "get" to go fly a project today. Yea baby, the glamour of the aviation business brought into sharp focus of reality. It is forecast to be a 103 degree day and the humidity is high. Heat index will be in the WTF range. I "get" to go stand on a black tarmac at 2:30 this afternoon and hook up the camera system, then sit in the nice warm embrace of the sun inside a nice big aviation window sauna and put on headphones to cover my ears. It feels great once we crank up that big cooling fan on the front of the airplane, just to get the wind. Once we get to 5,000 feet it should be down to 60 or 70 and that will feel great. It will then suck big time to drop down into the sauna to land, unhook the camera, and get back to my car that has been sitting in the sun for a couple of hours.

It is the part they never mention in the brochures of learning to be a pilot or in books about the glory of flying in the wild blue yonder. I will not need a leather bomber jacket and gloves today.

flipper35 07-19-2018 06:43 AM

If you fly high enough you would need that jacket.

They (Marines in the Pacific theater WWII) used to attach jury rigged ice cream makers under the wings of the Corsair and little propellers on the front of the drum would churn the ice cream while they flew at high altitude. About 32k feet.

GH85Carrera 07-19-2018 06:49 AM

Yea, well we almost never get a project that requires us to go above 5,000 feet. Most of our customers what 6 inch resolution or even higher. So on rare occasions we need to go to 10,000 feet. Of course was can't get much higher. We don't have a oxygen system on the airplanes we fly. That is about as useless as a life raft.

The 6 inch resolution is basically if you imagine we made a print that was "life size" so that an object in the photo is the same size as the real object on the ground, each pixel of the image covers 6 inches. We can shoot higher resolution, it just cost the client more money. And our mapping software can "zoom" in to the point that a single pixel fills the screen, and we can measure it. We just finished a project that covered a couple of square miles at 6 inch resolution. The final tif file was 3.6 GB with LZW compression and no layers.

Porsche-poor 07-19-2018 07:59 AM

morning all. busy day yesterday and again today. Detail conversions for a project.

RKDinOKC 07-19-2018 09:05 AM

What a rip. Ran an errand to pick up a prescription. They tell me it's waiting for doctor approval. Ask and they are asking for approval from the ER doc instead of my regular doc. Argh, why didn't I get a email? I am supposed to get an email if there are any problems! I submitted the refill a week ago!

Am told they have to get it approved from my regular doc and come back tomorrow. So, drive straight home. The pharmacy is 2 miles from my house. Not 5 minutes after I get home I get an email that the prescription is ready to pick up. Why didn't they ask me if wanted to wait for 10 minutes to see if it was going to get approved. It is one of those recurring drug subscriptions you don't just stop taking.

Guess the people they hire in the pharmacy now-a-days are just cashiers and are flummoxed when the script hasn't been filled yet.

flipper35 07-19-2018 09:11 AM

Glen , your 172 probably won't get to altitudes where you need oxygen, let alone let you make ice cream while you are up there. Unless you fly here in the winter, then you can make ice cream on the runway.

Richard, they probably hire the people that fail at the drive through at Jack in the Box.
