Yep got the geuiiiine German relay, if it lasts another 31 years I will be happy!

We just had a nice 5.3 quake. No damage here. It was centered near Cushing. That is the largest oil storage facility on the planet.

Stijn!!

There is some damage in downtown Cushing. No severe injuries reported.

Blew off work today and spent quality time with my granddaughter. Had a blast, but I'm knackered.

Sparrows must eat a LOT of cabbage

Good Morning

Morning.

The kids and I were cleaning up some brush yesterday and had a fire going in our patio fire pit. I was working out front when one of our volunteer fire fighters pulled up. He advised that someone had called about an open fire. I invited him around to see what we were doing and he told me we were good but we can't burn anything but wood. I had out some dead branches on the fire but cut them up so the lid would cover them.

Apparently, the city ordinance changed some years ago and you have to have a permit. I had no idea about this and have had many fires over the years.

He gave me a warning and just told me to go to city hall today and get a permit for $10 which is good for a year. As we were talking he noticed our neighbors to the South had a fire s he headed over there.

It's not a big deal and I'll get the permit today. Just irritating that someone called about it.

GH85Carrera 11-07-2016 05:28 AM

So the city wants $10 bucks per fire for people to continue do what they they did since humans invented how to start a fire at will. Sounds like a government from most areas.

Good Monday morning. It was nice to have some daylight on the commute to work.

One thing for sure, our dogs or at least the male dog does NOT like the ending of daylight savings time. He has a very accurate internal clock and he know when feed time is supposed to be. He does not like the time delay. He adjusts instantly to daylight savings and the hour earlier feeding time somehow.

The earthquake in Cushing was downgraded a little from a 5.3 to just a 5.0. Some reports of broken windows and the downtown buildings has some damage. Their downtown it a typical small town area with some old buildings. Some areas lost electricity for a couple of hours.

The quake had a loud bang and the initial shock was strong and then 15 or 20 seconds of very light shaking. It is just weird to feel the concrete floor move.

Oh Haha 11-07-2016 05:39 AM

Pretty much Glen.

We had a code enforcement officer up until last spring when the city had to eliminate the position. Now, the PD or FD responds only if someone calls to complain about violations.

Oddly enough, 3 streets to the West of us is the city/township divider and the township allows open burning of leaves and bonfires.

It is unfortunate stupidity on the part of a few has caused so much regulation. My mom said that when she was a kid in the late 30s and early 40s her dad would just burn off the lawn in the spring. All the dead grass is gone and it fertilizes the yard. It grows back quickly, but there are a few weeks of stinky black yards. It is the fast easy way but I am kinda glad that is frowned upon now. Especially in this part of the world where so many folks have wooden stockade fences.

My grandparents house was a new suburb in the 1930s. The back yards were all just chain link fences. The people behind my grandparents had a Shetland pony that we rode around on when I was a kid. My grandparents raised chickens until their kids moved away from home. Without the free labor it was too much work to keep it clean. Grandpa made it into a playhouse for the grandkids.

The lots were 170 feet deep and only 50 feet wide.

RKDinOKC 11-07-2016 07:31 AM

I didn't feel no earthquake.

Maybe someone called on the neighbor that you could see burning and the Fireman saw your smoke on the way there.

I just got a phone call asking for Lois. My Mom's name, she passed over a year ago. The interesting bit is that I did all her stuff using our landline number. They should have absolutely nothing with my work cell phone number associated with her.

I got him though. I said "Lois...Lois? (snif) She...She passed away." and started crying.

Brother that lives behind me fell Sunday morning at about 1am. Broke his fibula. Don't know yet if they are going to pin it or just slap a cast on it. He has MS and has trouble walking. Said he had got up to use the bathroom. Says he went to emergency because it was really painful but not what kind of fracture it is.

When I broke my femur it was a compound fracture. I was in traction for 3 days before they pinned my leg from my knee to my hip.

GH85Carrera 11-07-2016 08:09 AM

Broken legs are justified ER visits. It is easy to pinch or damage a blood vessel or artery and bleed out fast. At least he did not break a hip.

I still get mail addressed to my dad. Lots of retirement homes and catalogs for crap. No phone calls for him in a long time. He never lived here and his home phone was disconnected after his death.

Morning all from Santa Clara again...................

RKDinOKC 11-07-2016 08:53 AM

The house phone here was 100% Mom. By that time I was using only my cell phone. To make her happy everything for the house was in her name. City, Gas, Electricity, Phone. After she passed I turned off the house phone and got new utility accounts in my name. I always used the house phone when doing anything with her name.

And yes this mailing address still gets junk mail addressed to her, hearing aids, retirement homes, insurance plans, etc.

Isn't that where they filmed "The Lost Boys"?

I rode my bicycle up to city hall and paid my $10. The FF that stopped lives a couple of streets over. BTW-he didn't show up with lights and siren blaring.

Just got a call from my daughter's school asking if I can help with picture retakes. "Sure, when is it?" "Today at 1". Alrighty then!

Guess I'm heading up there in a few.

I already cleaned up the rest of the yard waste and have it bagged for pickup Wed.
