Richard, I have flown in many airliners but have never flown one. Not a real one anyway, just in the sims.

Got the lights in the truck. Huge difference in lighting.

It was a King Air that I got to pilot. Airliners was just a passenger. Don't feel too bad since I found that the pilots are typically just passengers as well.

Gradcundulations on the versary.

Fastest I have been is 180kts.

The airline pilots get to calculate everything, program the FMS and taxi the plane to where they can take off and hand control over to the FMS. Then they get to hand fly the landing.

Excluding air lines the fastest I have ever flown was in a T-34 (wwii trainer) and the slowest the good year blimp.

When I toured the American Airlines data center in Dallas, early 90's. The pilots got to choose one of three provided flight plans. Taxi around. Set the flaps where the weights and measures department said, then take off. At 200ft altitude the plane flies itself until it gets back to 200 ft off the ground.

Also found the pilots and stewardesses got paid from the time the wheels leave the ground until they touch ground again. They only get paid for air time. So if they are sitting on the runway or terminal they are just a frustrated as the passengers.

There was what they called a war room where each person had 3 big computer screens and there were big projection screens on the wall that displayed the weather from the weather department. The war room is where they did all the flight plans and montiored all the flights. They had the ability to not only communicate vocally with the pilots, they could take over and fly the planes. When 9 11 happened kind of wondered how the war room was involved. Surprised if they were as "in the dark" about where the AA planes were as the media reported.

I've flown in a Confederate Air Force maintained P-51. It wasn't a Nevada racer so the King Air was a little faster. It cost me a $200 donation to the Confederate Air Force to help maintain the planes. It was worth it just so I could say I done it. The jump seat in one of those things is not all that big either.

Excluding airliners, all I've flown in was a sailplane (glider). The engine on that thing was real quiet. :)

Well there was this time I drove my 911 up to 200.....

Actually the place I worked for many years owned a Bellanca super viking. The owner told everyone it was a 200 Knot airplane but that was a slight exaggeration. I was in it once when we had a great tail wind and we hit 220 knots. I was in the right seat so I was not really flying it, just in it.

On our trip back from Orlando, FL we were in one of the giant Airbus airplanes. It held half the airport I think. Anyway the pilot let us listen to the cockpit conversation if we wanted. I was looking out the window and noticed we were way up there. About then he said they were at 43,000 feet. I can only guess he was flying over a thunderstorm. That is the highest I have ever been.

The only thing I've ever been off the ground in was a helicopter giving rides at the fair about 25 years ago. Never flown in an airplane.

Almost right after college planned to get into hang gliding. Took a class and spent a Saturday making 2 solo flights off a cliff. Because it was cool and calm out they were what were called sled rides. No thermals or updrafts to catch. Was considering a couple of gliders for purchase when I discovered 1 in 20 hang glider flyers die hang gliding. Traded the Blazer was going to use to cart the glider around for a 914 and got my first computer and Apple IIc.

After 3 years sold the 914, got another Blazer and did a similar thing with dirt bikes. Had to break my leg to discover how many get hurt seriously on them first though.

Have not been the the least bit attracted to anything that might be considered an adventure sport since.

Put a LOT of miles on my 10 speed bicycles too. That stopped when both of my nephews had friends that passed when they got hit by cars while riding. Not what I would call an adventure sport, but not enough protection from all the driver's out there. Especially these days.

owning a Porsche is sport enough.

For a while got into guns and target shooting. Then discovered radio controlled airplanes. Re-invested my guns and reloading stuff into R/C planes.

Was doing a lot of road travel visiting friends and going to different R/C flying events etc. so decided to get a 928. It traveled really nicely and being a hatch back was roomy enough to haul my R/C planes.

Ended up selling my minivan before I found a 928. Decided I could buy a 944 because they are fairly cheap and when I found a 928 could sell it fast. Went out the next Saturday and drove 5 944's. There was something wrong with all but one. It was at a local car lot and I did the walk away thing to try to get the price down. It was in perfect condition bUT they were asking a bit much.

Called them to see if they would come down and was told they sold it to a father and son for their original asking price. They where out driving a 944 Turbo while I was there, decided it was too much car for the sone, and I needed to come look at it. Was a bit disappointed when I drove up as it was white. All of the 944's I'd looked at were red and I figured that would sell the fastest.

Test Drove it and by the end of red line in 2nd gear as I left the lot I was sold on the 88 944 TurboS. AND being a hatch back it actually hauled my R/C planes great.

Found a Road and Track special edition in the glove box that featured the new 88 Turbo S. It sang all the praises and talked about it being a great car for autocrossing. Did Google and the local PCA club had autocrosses once a month and posted the results on their web site. Decided to check it out.

Went to my first autocross. Had to borrow a helmet. Was so pumped up my hands were shaking just sitting in line to go. The only thing I remember the instructor saying was "You don't have to go thru the center of the gap between the cones." He also turned off my wipers several times. At my first autocross I got 2nd. 2nd from the slowest. The only one slower than me was a girl in a 914 that kept getting lost in the cones. They did tell me I won because you could see the big grin of my face even though was wearing a full face helmet.

Lost interest in R/C and started investing in my knowledge, skills, and car upgrades. Over the next 3 years went from being 2nd from last to the one to beat. And even though changing cars a few times, been autocrossing ever since Up until the stepping on that nail. Haven't really found anything to replace autocrossing yet. Need to find something, it's been 5 years.

I counted my hobbies once and came up with 17. I made an effort to hit all of them in one day. It was a long day. I decided I needed to eliminate several and I did. Now the Porsche and El Camino are the biggest hobby. I can always find something to do to one of them.

Yea, I bet Sid would be happy to send you some spare heat, likely 45C or 115 or so around Sid's part of the world. We are having spring again right now 75F and the high in the mid 80s.

morning all. We hit the mid 90's on Sunday. I am hoping its going to cool off or stay cool till the run to Spokane. If it get hot I'll be skipping the drive the day before I head home.

We will only get to 75* today. Oh well, I guess I will have to learn how to deal with it.

I never counted how many hobbies I have. I probably shouldn't either.

So the wall is done, the lights on the truck are done. Now to finish the garden fence.
