I guess I had enough sand and beaches growing up to last a lifetime. It appeals to me as much as going to get a prostate exam.

I will admit I am spoiled. Since dad was in the Air Force we would go to Bellows AFS. and spend a week for $5 per day. it was pretty primitive, no HIVAC system of any kind. A kitchen, small common area and two bedrooms. Maybe 800 sq feet. We could get a cabin 100 yards from the water. The cabin had a bed in the bedrooms and a few pieces of industrial furniture and an empty kitchen. We had to bring everything else with us. The beach was pristine and almost empty. It was the beach Magnum PI would film at when they had to go to see some super rich person and walk on his "private beach." No huge parking lot, no people, not a speck of trash, and perfect waves.

We went more than once for Christmas. We would open presents in our bathing suits, then go swimming in the ocean. After a week at the beach every single thing we owned had sand in it. It gets old fast eating a sandwich and tasting sand, and sleeping in a bed with sand in the sheets.

If your wife wants to see the beach, it sounds like a great opportunity to take her. Have fun.

I plan to geocache and not be found for days!!!!!

RKDinOKC 08-24-2017 11:38 AM

So you gonna hide and leave her clues?

flipper35 08-24-2017 12:26 PM

Afternoon all.

The eclipse was interesting and the kids liked it. Jacob got some new stuff for his Jr Ranger vest. They told him he has just over 400 national parks left. I was glad we didn't go to Homestead the day of the eclipse. What a zoo it would have been that day.

David, start out with really obtuse clues until you are ready to be found.

At my sister's we rode the electric go-karts again. Someone (not in our group) decided to take a selfie while driving and lost their phone. Did you know a phone does NOT provide good traction? To be competitive with the kids on those I need to lose too much weight. It is hard to pass on the outside.

Jim, you can come work on our garage when you need a break from yours.

Jim Richards 08-24-2017 12:34 PM

Sure thing, Brent.

GH85Carrera 08-24-2017 12:52 PM

Brent, how many national parks has he visited?. I guess I could google the total number of parks and subtract 400 but I am lazy. Does it also have the national monuments, memorials, recreation areas ant the rest or just the parks?

flipper35 08-24-2017 01:18 PM

Yes, that includes the national monuments and recreation areas for the 417 in the US currently.

He has several badges from 8 of the areas but we didn't know about the Jr Ranger on our trip east a few years ago so he should have 11 I think.

He gets sworn in at each park.

GH85Carrera 08-24-2017 01:50 PM

Cool. I have no idea how many of them I have visited. More than most Americans I bet. On our driving trips we make a point of stopping at parks. From Acadia in Main to International Friendship Park just south of San Diego downtown. Dozens of them in Utah, Arizona and Colorado, and California. As far west as Haleakalā in Kula, Maui, HI and as far north as Denali in Alaska.

No doubt the Arizona national memorial and the Oklahoma City bombing memorial are the most somber.

Porsche-poor 08-24-2017 03:58 PM

I am not leaving any clues!

RKDinOKC 08-25-2017 12:08 AM

I am usually clueless.

GH85Carrera 08-25-2017 06:18 AM

All this National park talk got me to thinking I need to cough up the big bucks and get my lifetime pass in he next few days before they raise the rates.

Just $10 buck for a few more days for us geezers.

Good Friday morning TGIF or is it Saturday again?

Saturday, naturally. :)

My wife & I each have a lifetime parks pass. $10, what a great deal.

GH85Carrera 08-25-2017 08:49 AM

Yea, we got one for my wife last year in Acadia National Park in Maine. I was a young puppy last year and could not get one for me yet. We drove the loop of the park and finally came to a booth and the guard insisted he see the ID of the pass holder. Of course we had stopped several times and looked around. So I had to stoop the flow of traffic going in but shutting off the car, using the key to unlock the trunk and dig out her purse and hand it to her to find her driver's license and than how that to the guard. Get back in the car and get moving.

Oh well it was not my rule. Now I will have a lifetime pass as well and I always have my wallet on me unless I am in bed.

RKDinOKC 08-25-2017 08:59 AM

You don't sleep with your wallet with you? I would feel nake...oh, nevermind.

flipper35 08-25-2017 09:30 AM

Even when the price goes up it isn't a bad deal for a lifetime pass.

flipper35 08-25-2017 09:30 AM

Oh, and happy *day.

Yea, as we were buying the pass to get into Acadia National Park the lady asked if we wanted a $10 lifetime pass. It was no brainer decision. Of course we did.

Not only am I not in Texas, I don't even have a sword. So...Not much chance of me attempting any of the stunts.

GH85Carrera 08-25-2017 01:36 PM

The weather is crazy. It is August in Oklahoma. Normally it is 90 to 105 degrees and everything is dry.

Right now at 3:30 PM the "hottest part of the day" it is a whopping 70 degrees outside. It is raining again. Over an inch so far. We are at the 4th wettest August ever. No complaints as a citizen but dang, I wish we could have a few clear days to get some project flown.

flipper35 08-25-2017 02:32 PM

Isn't' that the way it goes? You don't have a project and it is clear as a bell.
