I just tried to book a room for next year's Palooza. The hotel is already full, and I am on the waiting list. She did not say how far down the list I am. The main hotel that has the convention center is the one booked up for the dates. There are hotels, B&B and every sort of room to rent there, just not at that one.

Afternoon all. It must be Monday.
Glen, looked like an interesting trip. When we frequented the EAA Fly-in at Oshkosh the hotels in the area were all already booked for the next year before the current one was finished. In regards to the Veyron, even if I had the financial means to own one I can think of so many other cars I would rather have than a 4200# two seater. Hawk Lancia Stratos replica. Lotus Elise. Viper ACR. Noble M400. JBL Cobra. I guess the ACR is by far the heaviest car in that list. |
There was a top notch replica 550 Spyder at the Palooza. It was next to a 74 911 RS. Both were very well done and something that could be driven and not locked in a museum.
I assume they were replicas. I just can't imagine they were real. |
There is a guy not far from where we live that had his original Cobra 427 S/C at the Jefferson WI swap meet and car show several years back. He also has/had a LM002, RS200 and a few other oddball stuff. Plus the usual current gen Lambo or Ferrari of the time.

Yeah there was this guy that came to our PCA autocorsses with a Supra twin turbo that made 1000 rwhp. He tried and tried to get a faster time than my 88 944 TurboS. He had two very big problems. It just couldn't put the hp down to the ground, AND don't know what it weighed, but is was heavy.
I thought weight made a lot of difference autocrossing until the day I gave a 300+ pound guy a ride around the course at speed after the autocross. They had accidentally left the timer on. With the 300+lb passenger I matched my FTD. I noticed that by myself my top speed on the long straight was 105mph right when I had to brake. With passenger it was only 95 but could go a little deeper. Was driving the car at the limit cornering in 4 wheel drifts. The car was accelerating and braking slower but making up for it by carrying more speed through the corners. Ended up a tie. That's when I quit taking all the stuff out of my car like the spare tire to lighten it up and only removed the loose stuff that might get slung around in the car. Did the opposite with my BoxsterS. Had set a really fast time and between runs took 120lbs out of it, the passenger seat, engine cover/rear speakes, spare. Everything I could unbolt easily. It wasn't .01 of a second faster. I did at one point switch to some heavier wheels that were wider and looked way cooler. It was .5 seconds slower. I looked so much better I just couldn't bring myself to put the lighter wheels on it. http://www.zipbang.com/986boxster/ticket.jpg http://www.zipbang.com/986boxster/roockonboxster.jpg It might make a difference on the track where the speeds and corner speeds are much higher and there are usually less corners. But autocrossing 200 to 300 lbs either way just didn't make that much difference when truely driving the car at the limits. Note: The Sheriff's Deputy in the top picture was one of the Judges at the local PCA car show. The gut sticking into the frame on the right is another deputy judge but he wasn't in uniform. Also I always thought the boxster needed a big ol wing on the back like Porsche added to the 928. |
One of the funnest rides I ever gave someone around the course was a guys wife. All the time I was accelerating she was laughing hysterically. Then when I started braking and turning she screamed bloody murder. It was like laugh forward G meter and a left/right screaming G meter. On one straight as started to slow down and asked her if she wanted me to take it easy she screamed. "NO, KEEP GOING, I AM NEVER DOING THIS AGAIN!"
Took another guys wife around the track. She just sat motionless without any expression on her face. After she got out of the car she smiled real big and told me thanks. The rest of that season her and her husband both autocrossed his 924. |
Morning all.
Richard, fun runs with passengers are not allowed anymore in a PCA autocross. The insurance carrier said no more. The insurance PCA provides for the regions is the second largest expense just behind the regions rebates. The neighbors behind our back yard fence came out to watch and get a ride several years ago. He still talks about that. He said his stomach is still out the track. |
You guys are depressing with all this talk of fun with your cars as it sits below freezing today.

Driving was NOT an enjoyable experience at lunch today. Everyone was going from 5 to 10 mph under the speed limit AND even though most of my trip was on 4 lane street, there had to be at least two that decided to block both lanes going 10mph under the speed limit... As Bugs Bunny says, "Maroons."

When it snows it can get interesting. Though I have not yet made it all the way from the intersection to our house while sideways the whole time yet. While Jacob cackles in the back not all the family members are as "enthused" about me driving looking through the passenger window.
I know, I should have some loftier goals in life. :) |
Had a CD of Marching Band music. One of the tunes was the Barnum Bailey Circus march. It was GREAT to play while watching people skid around and if snowing! Changed the whole mood of the situation.

Emily wants her HS band to play the theme from Stargate SG1.
Firefox has the new Quantum update. Holy crap is it bad looking. I feel like I have gone back in time 15 years. They had to really try to get the tabs looking that bad. |
afternoon all. It has been a long day and just getting started. Off to go draw some crap up.

Also, never jump through a time/space portal naked. |
So you jump through time/space portals fully clothed?
|
I don't always jump through time/space portals, but when I do I do it mostly clothed.
|
The Terminator always had to go through naked. I usually just wear my shorts and t-shirt for warmer weather or jeans if it is cooler. I can say I have never jumped through a time/space portal into a winter environment. I do my time travel in southern California like the original Terminator.
|
I never jump thru anything.......

You are missing out.
