I sure don't want to relive the 1970s. The music was great, but using the Pelican forum would be a real challenge with just FAX machines.:eek:
It looks like I will be forced to take the afternoon off. It is nice weather and the mean boss's wife is going to make dig holes again, or still. Our back patio looks like a plant nursery. The gardens are filling up some, but only with the small flowers. I "get" to dig a big ol hole for a Japanese Maple and then I get to build a concrete tree ring for it. Golly, it sound like fun! |
I have yet to make that switch.
|
Call before you dig.....that way it gets put off a bit longer.

I put in the sprinkler system so I know were those lines are. With 99 spray heads for the are they are everywhere but they are in a logical order and well placed. On Monday when I came home I turned on the water and there was a big air bubble. It was like the water had been turned off at the meter. Sure enough the city had come through and replaced the meter while doing "routine maintenance" so it is new. At my old house I could not budge the water meter shut off. I even tried a cheater bar. I called and asked if they would replace it. They just said no. It was a weird thing, the glass cover for the dials to read the meter broke all of a sudden. They replaced the meter and it was much better. |
Hey I'm only trying to help. But then again if you dig the holes for the bosses wife he might let you have a beer or two.
|
That is a given. I never get paid directly for my yard work, but beer consumption is a given. I will likely get to mow and edge the yard as well.
|
Tomorrow is clean up all the sticks and debris from the winter so we can rake the yard. Raking is easy as it pulls behind the lawn tractor. Might borrow dad's to suck up all the rakings and put in the compost pile. Will probably have to make a run to the dump as well. Old water softener and all.

Golly we are having fun!
The master gardener has a lot of new plants, lots old plants and wants the drip irrigation for all of them changed. I got to dig one hole for a plant that was just a foot from the BIG Bradford Pear tree that we cut down because of all the ice storm damage. The stump is just a potted plant holder now. The tree is dead, but the roots are still everywhere. I had to get the pick axe out to chop through the roots. It was FUN! |
The Pepper is home from the groomer. She smells all peachy.
When I took her in this morning Pepper jumped up putting her front paws on the counter and said "Hello" plain enough the girls behind the counter just looked at her with their mouths agape. Told Pepper good girl then she surprised me. Just sat beside me with her leash slack and ignored all the other people and dogs that were there. Well, until her normal groomer chick came out to get her. then she got all wiggly excited saying hello over and over eating up the attention she was getting. |
Stijn!!
Morning all. I am watching the F1 practice and next up the Qualifying. Then back to slave labor in the yard.
|
It looks like Oklahoma will get through April with no tornadoes for the year. California has had at least 9 this year.

Good Morning.
Yeah, that's what it is, morning. Really slept way long. Fell asleep about 6pm yesterday and just woke up and it's just after 9am. 15 hours! Pepper woke me up saying "I want out." or probably woulda been longer. Always kinda freaky to fall asleep when it's light outside, wake up and it is light outside again. Got my pay statement notification at 8am for my direct deposit tomorrw. Got a whole $186 a month raise. Comes up to $1.07 an hour. Comes up to $113 a month take home. Last raise I got was over 5 years ago. In that last 10 years before retirement that any increase in pay will increase Social Security. If I live long enough to collect it. Found statistically due to the TIA stroke and diabetes only a 20% chance of living another 10 years. 2 more years and I can cash in my 401K to make payouts equal to my current salary without working until retirement. Doc says to not cash my 401K just yet. |

Why do we. as Americans celebrate Cinco de Mayo?
Is it just an excuse besides listening to Jimmy Buffet to drink Margaritas? FYI, chaperons in HS can't tell margaritas from Gatorade if drinking from gatorade bottles and you don't salt the rim. Even if you sing "Wasted away in Margaritaville" while drinking. And that's even when everyone else is getting their drinks checked for alcohol. We also found liquor stores didn't card when buying tequila and triple sec as opposed to just vodka, whiskey, or everclear. Maybe it's also why the Saxophone section always wanted to go get tacos after the game instead of pizza. |
Dernit. The lid on my touchless kitchen trash can quit opening. The light comes on, so it is seeing me, but no open, and it's out of warrantee. It's on it's second motion sensor opening lid. There is a newer brand that is both motion and voice control and is guaranteed 5 years instead of just one. They also have a 2 bin version that has plastic liners for one side and a removable recycling bin for the other. Looks pretty neat especially since our city has started accepting the recyclables in a big roll out bin like our trash so we don't have to separate paper and plastic/glass.

Morning all.
Richard, I ignore Cinco de Mayo and St. Patrick's Day equally. I love beer, but I have never had a green beer. Both are events dreamed up by American bar owners. I have never understood going to a bar and paying jacked up prices to drink a beer. When I was at the right age to try it every bar was slam full of smokers and the places smelled like a giant ash tray. The mean boss's wife had me slaving like mad yesterday. I had to interrupt the F1 race and go dig a hole for planting a full grown Sequoia. Well, OK I exaggerated a tiny bit. It is a 4 foot tall dwarf Japanese Maple. But I was told to dig a hole right under the canopy of the neighbors tree so it was a layer of grass, and then roots. Once again out came the pick-axe. They I was allowed to carry a few tons of stone to build a tree ring. As I was putting away some of my tools I did a quick mental tally. I used two different shovels, pick-axe, sledge hammer, chain saw, lawn mower, edger, string trimmer, leaf blower, wheel barrow, 4 foot pry bar, and several other tools I can't remember right now. I was out at 9:30 AM and were out working until 3:45 PM. Then I finally got the watch the F1 race. |
Moanday Mertnin.
Jim, just another Saturday mertnin. Gren, do you feerl rike you arle turlning Japanese? |
Morning all. Spent the weekend doing chores as well. Between trip to the store, kid runs and storage cleanout I'm glad to be back at work.
|
Yea, I am glad to be butt sitting in front a computer instead of wielding a shovel or a wheelbarrow.
|
Finally warm here. May get in the upper 70s. Worked outside most of the weekend and it was nice to be outside finally.
David, as "easy" as the work is here, I would rather be outside or changing the oil in the tractor or *gasp* cleaning our outside garage where the truck, two bikes and Cobra live. The bike has a side plate that is broken. Need to breakout the fiberglass kit and fix it. I will fiberglass it because a used one like below is $75 on up. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/jeUAA...n8/s-l1600.jpg |
