Hear stories of guys on hang gliders going hundreds of miles riding the updrafts ahead of storm fronts.

The worlds record longest lighting strike is from Oklahoma. Just at 200 miles from the cloud to the object on the ground it struck.
|
Who the heck measured that? Can't imagine being that quick with any kind of tape measure, especially that long!
|
better not be a metal tape.

200 miles, that's a LOT of computers! LOL

Morning all. Lawn mowing was put off another day. After nearly two inches of rain yesterday the yard is rather wet for some reason. The fescue is not tough enough to take a mower wheel when the ground is muddy.
Watching Practice 3 after the ore practices. It is neat to see some of the behind the track walls scenes of Monaco. Qualifying is next. |
I need to mow the yard, too. And work on the Z.
|
My yard guy is out of school, BUT he starts work as a summer intern Tues.
He also has a family reunion on his Dad's side this weekend. Don't think my yard is gonna get mowed unless I mow it myself. |
NOooooooooo!
Went in to update a public DNS record. Clicked save and instead of the message telling me the host file was updated it came up that I did not have a host tile. The public DNS host file is gone! I logged out and back in and there were 5 records and no Mx records. Called support and they, of course, have never heard of anything like this happening. We had 52 host file records not including MX and SVR. At least our SPF text record was back. Support tells me there is no backup are anything like that. Found a site, DNStrails.com that shows our mx records and 21 hosts. But that is not half of our host records. Guess I will be hunting and adding DNS records all day/evening. They sure need a backup and restore of the host file. Network Solution had that, but they sure got expensive. Don't know if any other DNS providers to do the download/upload of the host file for a domain. |
Whew.
Stopped to go get some dinner. While eating just happened to remember I did a backup of our public DNS hosts file on 05/09/2018. Was able to quickly restore and add the two DNS entries I've made since then. Still very weird for their host file to just disappear. IT management will probably either take managing DNS from me or move to another provider, or both. |
We hit our first 90 degree day. 247 days since a 90 or higher. We will have lots more in the next few months.

The SmartHome thing doesn't kick in until June 1 and it has been getting hot.
Instead of an average of around 16 kWh a day, with it getting in the 90's it is closer to 35 kWh. We pay 11.3¢/kWh normally. With the SmartHome thing we pay only 4.5¢/kWh except between 2pm and 7pm (the peak hours) during that time the price can be the 4.5¢, 12¢, 24¢, or 48¢ depending on just how hot it gets. The neat thing that really saves money with the SmartHouse paln is the programmable thermostat they give you. It receives a signal to know if the next day is going to be a peak day. If it is it starts at 11am cooling the house to 4 degrees below what you have set. The at 2pm it changes the to maintain whatever the highest you want it to go, typically 4 degress above your regular set point. That way it cools the house down during the off peak time, then maintains a higher temp during the peak time. I thought it was going to be really noticable, but last summer I didn't really notice the temp in the hose going up and down. And it did actually save me quite a bit last summer. They say you can really save a LOT if you use your electrical appliances like stove and washer/dryer at times other than the peak from 2pm to 7pm. Some people think you can't do the SmartHours thing if you average your bill. Well, you can, it just takes longer before you start seeing the savings. If you don't save at least $200 from June1 thru Sept 30, they pay you the difference so you save it anyway. |
Its less than a week till the first day of winter and today hit 29C. Tomorrow is going for 30C. Early last week was low teens?
|
I'm not complaining about the warm weather (i hate the cold), its just weird for this time of the year. The missus says that its supposed to get cold again later in the week. Glad I'm going north for work in a few weeks.
|
Phew. That was fun. Got the yard edged, mowed and fertilized. Now it will grow even faster. The mean bosses wife made me fertilize because she wanted the yard to be GREEN so it is now fertilized.
|
I went outside this morning and I am real sure I could hear my grass growing. I set the sprinkler to run last night to water in the fertilizer so everything was wet and happy.
The Koi pond had male toads calling for a week. A few days ago the singing stopped. That is usually the sign he found love, or some floozy toadette to breed with. We now have tadpoles so it was a successful union. We have tadpoles every year. They help eat some of the alga on the rocks on the bottom of the pond. Then the fish eat the tadpoles, or most of them. Survival of the fittest or luckiest seems to have a few survive to be little baby toads and get bigger than the fish can eat. The parent toads are still around for a while, enjoying the water and the bugs. The dogs will harass them for a while but eventually they get a snoot full of toad venom. A few frothy mouths and they remember to leave them alone. I think our male dachshund is addicted to the toad venom. My dad was an addiction counselor for several years after he retired from the Air Force. He even went to OU and got a degree in it. Anyway he said one popular thing with some idiot kids was to catch a toad, hold it over hot water and then lick its back to get high. I guess Toad Suck Arkansas (a real place) was named appropriately. |
People do some really dumb stuff.
Mornin’ y’all. I hope you’re enjoying your holiday. We’re having our son & DIL over and I’ll do some grilling. The weather should be nice, so it’ll be an afternoon out on the patio for us. Let’s get summer off to a good start! |
