Good hump day all. Well, not Jim and Jeff. Happy whatever day they are pretending it is today.

GH85Carrera 06-27-2018 06:33 AM

Good hump day all.

I keep my old oil, brake fluid, antifreeze and batteries in a spot in my garage. When the pile gets big enough, I take it to the local free City hazardous disposal site. I have a UV bulb with mercury, and some old paint as well. I just show em my water bill and they are happy that I am a tax paying citizen. I am gonna go see em soon. I also keep my old aluminum cans. We have a trash compactor that was left by the previous owners. I make a block of aluminum and when I have 5 blocks of cans, that makes almost 20 bucks. That is just enough money to pay for the trip to the scrap yard and buy me a cheap lunch. So I get a "free" lunch for my efforts.

Porsche-poor 06-27-2018 07:15 AM

morning all. its an avoid everything day. I think I have a migraine brewing so its time to keep my head down and avoid everything.

GH85Carrera 06-27-2018 10:25 AM

I hope your migraine left before it came.

Well, that was fun. I drove down to the scrap yard to get rid of my aluminum cans. Pull up to the loading docks, put the cans on a cart, roll em over to the guy standing by a scale. A guy in front of me had a nice aluminum wheel, and some pipes. The man behind the scale is telling him to leave or they will call the cops. I am assuming the employee there saw a likely thief and told him to beat it. Then he asks for my driver's license just to sell my scrap cans. Ah well, so the athorties know I sold $18.50 worth of aluminum. I am sure the IRS will come after me for the taxes on that. That was enough to go about two miles west to the entertainment district and find a place to park (at the movie theater) and walk over to a good local taco shop, Fuzzy's Tacos. $11 later I am full and the money left over will pay for the operating cost of the Elky with money left over, at least a dollar or maybe a buck fifty.

The trip down was different. I did not want the bags of cans to blow out, so I went down a road that is called Boulevard in Edmond. It really is a boulevard so the actual name of the street is Boulevard, Blvd. When it gets to OKC city limits it becomes Eastern and goes past the big horse race track, the city zoo and about then becomes Martin Luther King St. It continues past the OK department of public safety, home of the highway patrol, and on to an area I would never go late at night. It is fine in broad daylight, but not a place to hang out for me.

I have some old anti-freeze that I drained out of the Z when I removed the heater parts from under the dash. Glen, please feel free to take it to the hazardous disposal site for me. :)

Brent, it's Saturday. It's always Saturday. SmileWavy

GH85Carrera 06-27-2018 12:11 PM

Nope, I don't need to go again for about a year. The 911 and two Elky oil changes about fill up the big container I use. The anti-freeze I swap every other year on the Elky. The 911 has lifetime, never, ever, need to change, antifreeze and it will not leak! I had a can of brake fluid, that is from the 911 every spring. So right now I have nothing going to the wast disposal site for a while. It is nice the city provides a free site for us to get rid of that crap. Of course our tax dollars pay for it, but they don't charge extra to drop it off. It keeps folks from dumping it somewhere bad or just throwing it away and it getting to the landfill.

Every other month they have large trash day and citizens can get rid of water heaters, appliances, piles of debris and old mattresses and crap for no extra money.

Jim Richards 06-27-2018 12:12 PM

It was worth a try. :D

GH85Carrera 06-27-2018 12:45 PM

I tell ya what. You drive it over here, and I can go down and recycle it.

RKDinOKC 06-27-2018 12:52 PM

I don't know about anit-freeze, but oil you can take to the local parts store.

Used to leave old batteries next to the front of my garage and they would evaporate within 24 hours.

Always heard you could put anit-freeze out in bowls and get rid of stray animals in your neighborhood.
Doesn;t sound nearly as sporting as a friend that was in special forces. He would go blackout then sit on his roof and scope out then plink the strays in his neighborhood. Said somehow he could tell if they were strays or just neighbors animals roaming at night. Maybe he just took out anything without a collar.

Antifreeze poisoning is a horrible way to kill a critter. I would not do that to a rat or mouse. Maybe some ISIS terrorists or people that just start killing strangers like school shooters.

So, I have a laptop that I need to install some full volume encryption on and now they tell me it needs the disk to be MBR and not GPT! So, what is a good utility to change from GPT to MBR without having to backup/change/restore the small drive? It is 250GB so Dyn/MBR/GPT won't make a difference to the OS. BIOS/UEFI maybe will care.

Littlest has a soccer game. Will check in tomorrow if'n y'all have any ideas. Too bad Rick wasn't here, he would know!

GH85Carrera 06-27-2018 02:38 PM

Good question Brent.

RKDinOKC 06-27-2018 08:56 PM

Don't know what those are, disk partitioning formats?

RKDinOKC 06-28-2018 05:49 AM

Did not sleep a wink last night.

Guy is coming by this morning to talk to me about the GTS. He is local and currently drives a black 90 928GT. If he wants to trade I am NOT at all interested in a Black car, or another 5 speed! When I had my 90 GT really wanted a GTS.

Figured someone that already has a 928 or has had a 928 would be interested in mine.

GH85Carrera 06-28-2018 06:51 AM

Morning all. My main computer is working hard. It started on a project at 3:00 PM yesterday. It might finish by late this afternoon. 24 hours of churning with 8 cores, 32 gig of ram and a SSD drive for the data and a almost $900 video card. The GPU get hot on some steps. It has two big fans that sound like a vacuum cleaner when it get cranking. With all the cooling fans running in the computer it warms this office up several degrees.

At least I don't have to baby sit it.

Porsche-poor 06-28-2018 07:02 AM

morning all. I'm sure the boss thinks you should baby sit some lawn.

RKDinOKC 06-28-2018 08:26 AM

Welp, another guy gave me a standing offer of $70K.
Said he would go thru and replace all the old stickers that are kinda faded and resell it in a year for $85K.

GH85Carrera 06-28-2018 09:30 AM

Not a bad offer Richard.

I have been having fun this morning. With my computer working its little CPU hard I worked on a part of the camera mount. One mount piece is a little bugged up on the thread. Simple thread chaser and it should be fine. Run down the street to Fastenal and ask for a 1/4 x 28 thread chaser or tap. We walk to a wall of drawers with every size of tap and thread chaser one might need. Open the drawer for the one I need, just dust. They have 10 of every other size. I asked if meth dealers or tweakers use them in drug deals or what? Not one in the store? So off to NAPA a few hundred feet done the road. He had to get the analog catalog out and he found a tap. That will work for me. He orders if "from upstairs" and says it will be down in 5 minutes or so. They are the local NAPA warehouse. 10 minutes go by, no tap. He looks around and finally just orders a second one. 5 minutes later two of them come down. I just get one for under two bucks. 15 seconds of use and the new bolt goes in like new. Ta Da.

How is it that every-time I go to a store like Home Despot or Low-down, they have every other size of what I need but none of the size I need?

RKDinOKC 06-28-2018 09:38 AM

That product availability is done with very sophisticated data collection and AI. They have to determine exactly what to NOT order when sp they will be out of the one thing you need when you go in to pick it up.

It seems that way. I just astonishes me that with the computer inventory of today, they see a gizmo in a certain size sells out, all of them were SOLD they would figure is they had more of them in stock the could sell MORE of them, and make more money. I suspect often it is some lazy stocker that does not want to mess with ordering more, and putting them away when they come in. How hard is it to have the system see the sizes that sell out, and order extra of those?

It sure makes me miss the well run mom and pop hardware stores. They knew what they needed and had it in stock and knew right where they were on the shelf, and had no computers. Just people that cared. That is the real issue.
