So Jeff, do you have a bunch of projects while you are retired (temporarily) or one big one? restoring a car or something really big?

Outback Porsche 12-07-2018 10:06 AM

Amongst all Honey-doo's, clean up the garage and my office, service the 4x4 and porsche, lots of yard work, finish the aircon installs (need the sil to help on this one as he's the fully licenced electrician), a bit of golf (need the exercise). A few things, and I'm sure there will be more.

Sounds like you are making good use of the retirement training.

I was just looking at some of the flying we are doing in California. The 3dml file is 65 gig for the area. One building stands in an area where all the neighbors are burned down. It will be many long years before that place is back to normal.

The stereo in my El Camino is getting persnickety, and sometime I have to turn it off and back on to get it to read the thumb drive with my music. I was curious what a replacement Digital media player, with Bluetooth and iPhone connectivity would cost. I was shocked. $35 to $120 for the high end.

Hey Joe, we all are curious, what are you doing for a living now? Managing a cigar store, or something else entirely different?

I do things with stuff...

I've got my hands in a few pots at the moment. Dabbling in the fringes of an odd profession on the side.

928 GTS, 11 yrs. After that 88 951S and 01 BoxsterS both 4 years.

Shortest was an Isuzu Trooper, only kept it 6 mo because couldn't get the fan to blow hard enough to either heat or cool the interior.
Replaced it with the 92 Range Rover. On heat and cool it wasn't much better. It was so cheap I didn't care. And did sell it for $1500 more than I bought it for.

Things with stuff. Hey, I do that too!

OK, I guess that is an answer. It could be anything from Meth manufacturer to pharmacist or fast food cook.

No sweat, I was just curious but it really ain't my business. My business is Aerial Photography and mapping.

Porsche-poor 12-07-2018 01:21 PM

mapping? I'm lost. Can you map from my chair to the nearest bathroom. Better yet an exit for home?

flipper35 12-07-2018 01:49 PM

David, first you must find a window. Then you must find someone that can be your partner in helping you get not lost, preferably someone not well liked. After finding said partner, thrown them out the window. You will get an escort out. Sorry, been reading BOFH earlier.

45 minutes and I go home, get a snack and drive right back into town to get beat on by Em.

One of the guys from our gym was invited to this by the president of the association:

Well.....

For several grand you can hire us to come to your office and draw you a map. We prefer to use the airplane and that requires us to be outside at a couple thousand feet going 110 knots or so. So we usually map an area of 100 acres or more. We can do smaller areas but the cost is the same as the bigger area.

We are not prejudiced, we will accept the money from any individual, company or government agency or school and provide the most basic to the crazy complex map ever. We just finished one that the data file in 3Dml format is 65 gig. Your files are likely smaller than that.

Porsche-poor 12-07-2018 02:20 PM

bread crumbs next time I enter the office!

The Disco is way less temperamental than the womenfolk I like...

I require a credential for work that looks very much like a passport (need one of those too), but it's cover is red.

Glens raidido comment got me to thinkin...

Riding with my brother in his Escapé notice he is always making and taking calls and texts via siri and his iPhone thru the car stereo. Have even helped him use it better and have it read and he answer texts and emails with siri. Got ta thinkin it'd be nice ta update the stock 05 Cayenne to a radio that did that. But sadly realized in actual real world don't really make or get enough calls, text, and even emails all combined to use it much, if at all.

Put a radio in the Rover that did all that stuff, and only used it a couple of times once to see if it workd and once by surprise. Was finishing up talking on the phone headed hop in the rover and go to an appointment. When I started the rover the call moved to the hands free. Had forgotten about it doing that and it was a bit startling to be honest.

GH85Carrera 12-08-2018 07:10 AM

My current sub 80 buck stereos in the 911 and in the Elky will do that. Both cars are just not very quiet. The Elky is wind noise and little sound deadening, the 911 is the wonderful whine of the two overhead cams and 100% stock exhaust. The radios come with microphones, and I just ignore that. It is nice to set up the Bluetooth for using Siri for navigation. She takes through the car speakers.
99.8% of the time, I listen to my music on the usb drive. Done.

RKDinOKC 12-08-2018 07:49 AM

Also considered he backup camera thing. That's something else the 2005 Cayenne stereo don't do. Thought about it. The only time I ever backed into anything was once when Mom put the trash cans just outside the garage door behind My car. It was so I would roll them out to the curb on my way to work. Well, she didn't tell me and I was running late, Instead of rolling the bins to the curb, I tumbled them out into the yard and scattered the trash all over the yard.

Instead of a camera the Cayenne has Parking Assist that will now beep and light up lights to tell me how close things are getting to tell me to look in my mirrors.

Jim Richards 12-08-2018 09:52 AM

Whenever I get my Z put back together, I’ll see how good the backup camera/rear view mirror display setup works. Hopefully, the cost & effort are worth it.
