Phew. It is a super pretty, Monterey, CA type of day here today. 71 degrees and just a light breeze.

I was catching up on bookkeeping and in the middle of cogitating and doing goes-in-tas and carrying 1 around, and the bosses wife decided NOW is the time to go attack the "damn elm trees" growing up in our neighbor's yard right by our fence. The neighbors are a late 70s couple, and in poor health. I had called him and he said we are welcome to come cut down elm trees sprouting in the middle of his Red Bud Tree tangle. It is an overgrown patch of shrubs, but most will never get very big. The Elm Trees are a threat and will just get huge and shade our yard, and koi pond. That and the bosses wife is allergic to elm trees, so they are only good as dead trees.

So we (I) got em whacked down, and thrown over the fence into our yard where I was allowed to cut them up and stuff em in the trash can. She did help some with pointing and grunting at the different trees to cut down.

I did get two sketer bites, so I likely will get Yellow-EEE-west-nilearia-fever-bird-flu.

You remember the days back west when mosquitoes or no-see-ums were swarming.

I’m drawing a blank. Repressed memory, perhaps?

One of the TV shows I like is forged in fire. Competition show, make a knife or a blade. Often swords in a short time. My DVR hiccuped and I only got a few minutes of an episode. So I have to see it “On Demand” for the cable company.
I can see it, but I can’t fast forward at all. Damn, the commercials are LONG. My DVR lets me poke a button, and the commercials are skipped, the show starts again. Wading through 20 minutes of commercials sucks!
I sure love my Tivo DVR.

Oh boy, the boss's wife has invented new chores for me. We have a 10x12 storage building in the back yard. We put in in 21 years ago, right after we moved in to the house. It is great to have the lawn mower and other "yard crap" back there, and NOT IN MY GARAGE!

It is on concrete blocks and off the ground 8 or so inches. We put in a lattice around the bottom to keep little dachshunds out from under it. The plastic lattice is 21 years old and has been deemed old and ugly and needs to be replaced. I am just glad she does not see me the same way.

So I will "get" to take down the old lattice, trim the new panels to fit, and screw them into place. Part of the problem is the wood on the floor of the building in places had rotted a bit, so I will have to add in some new floor pieces to have something to screw the lattice to. Golly it will be fun.

Oh man, I had to yell at myself this morning. I was late getting to work! I sleep with the bosses wife, and she is responsible for the alarm clock. It did not go off this morning so I was late.

We broke another record for us. I have to mail a thumb drive with a file on it. It is 31,776,860 KB so kinda big. It is a format called Mr. Sid which is common in the world of GIS and surveying. The amazing part is I wanted to quadruple check the file before I sent to off. From the thumb drive it loaded and displayed in .23 seconds. It covers 707.81 square miles, at a resolution of 2.75 inch pixels, which is very high res. What it really means is if one printed of part of the file at one to one, or full size of the ground, each pixel in the image would be just 2.75 inches across, and the picture would cover 707.81 square miles.

Morning all. spent the weekend doing chores. Why is one chore always leads to more chores. The big one is that fact that I have what looks like a bad light fixture in the kids bedroom. Thought it was a bad bulb but no joy on a new one, and yes I tried the new bulb in another socket.

Weeeee fun at Sam's.

We like to go early, before the crowds. 17 years ago when the business I worked at got a membership, I paid like 10 bucks to get an add on membership. 84 cents per month is my price range.

That business went away, so we just told Sam's my little company will pay the membership. $40 per year for my business partner and I. Sam's has changed a lot of things, and no long has a business membership. Just regular and "pro" membership. Regular is $40 and pro is $100 per year. The pro lets us in two hours earlier than regular. Going at 8:45 is great because the crowds are minimal, and the fruit stocks are full.

They decided the old membership we had is not a pro level, so we were not supposed to be able to shop until 10:00 AM. There was no line at customer service. So I asked to upgrade and she said it would be pro-rated for the time until Dec 31st. Then she punched a bunch of buttons and said, that is $55 bucks. I told he even with no calculator I know that is not prorated. She punched he calculator a while and agreed. She tried three times, and the system locked her from the account, and she was the manager. She had wrote on my card to allow us to shop until Dec 31st as a pro member. So next year I "get" to upgrade.

I may have to try Costco now that we have one of those in town.

Sam's has fantastic fruit, way cheaper than the grocery stores. It is fresher, and cheaper, just a no brainer to get it there. If Costco has the same access to the premium fruit, we will go there and test it out.

Porsche-poor 10-21-2019 08:29 AM

I hate Costco I got there maybe once a year for a few things and there is no express or self check out. Once I walked up front and found that all the lines were 10 deep. I found an employee walking by and handed him the two frozen things I had and told him its not worth it and walked out.

sammyg2 10-21-2019 08:48 AM

Never could get used to the idea of paying someone to let me buy their stuff.
But apparently, they're doing just fine without my biddness.

Gonna be in the low 90's today. Luckily the days are shorter so it cools off more quicker in the afternoon/evening.

The only time of the year we have candy in our house is Halloween, and Christmas when we get boxes of see's candy.
MMMMMM see's.

So the wife and I were talking about handing out candy on Halloween like we do every year but the numbers have been dwindling.
lately, most of the knocks are from familias bussed in from other locales where trick-or-treating is not as efficient. Or safe.
So we decided this year we are still gonna buy candy, we just aren't gonna give it away. Win.

But deep down I know, she'll cave and turn on the porch light.

One time I went to Sam's for the former business I worked at to get the 5 pound apple pie they sell. It is a damn good pie. It was for a company Thanksgiving meal. One item, I bought it, and had the receipt. They always want to check the number of items against the receipt. One item does not need much thought or counting. There was a long line of folks with carts stuffed full and one old lady counting and working hard. I walked right past the line, and out the door, and she was trying to get me to stand in line. I showed my receipt, and said, just one item, I am not waiting, goodby, and I kept walking. I figured she was never going to chase me down. I had paid the full price, it was my dang pie, and I was leaving.

I was grocery shopping once at Target as they have a nice grocery store. They had 8 or more people in line at the one teller, and all the self serve checkouts were 5 deep in people checking out. They have 25 or 30 registers, just one was open. I pushed the cart over to an employee, and said I was going to buy this, but I refuse to wait in stupid lines to give my money to a business. I then walked out. It was not that guys fault, but he got to tell the manager I hope. I do not shop there anymore.

Porsche-poor 10-21-2019 08:59 AM

I had a manager where I grocery shop tell me that I should go to self-check and get out faster. I was in line to see a checker I have known for years, we catch up on Saturdays about kids and stuff. Anyway I looked at him and said do I get an employee discount for doing all the work myself? A tiny head shake later I said I thought not and proceeded to ignore him.

Porsche-poor 10-21-2019 09:48 AM

Sammyg2 I may have missed it somewhere along the line but where is it in the 90's today?

Jim Richards 10-21-2019 09:59 AM

Where I live (closer to the coast), it’s supposed to be in the low-to-mid 80s today. This whole week is supposed to be warm. Strange.

Glen I know a young lady (college aged) that dyes her hair those funky colors you talked about in the pictures thread. She is a drummer in several bands and its fun to watch the colors fly.
