Old Land Rovers are best rented, and not owned. Almost as unreliable as a vintage Fiat.

Outback Porsche 03-03-2020 07:48 AM

These series I and II land rovers are well looked after and work every day, 365 days of the year. Along with the falcons, they are the property of the prince.

GH85Carrera 03-03-2020 07:56 AM

And with a princes checkbook to buy parts and service they work great.

No doubt, some baling wire, duct tape and WD-40 you can get them to drive across Africa.

Outback Porsche 03-03-2020 07:57 AM

Hehe prolly

Oh, and that’s about a quarter of his fleet of vintage land rovers lined up in the first photo

The old guy that used to be my insurance agent sure was so good. He changed my policy all the time to save me money. He retired and with my current agent I have to keep calling and have her check to see if I can save some monies. Used to just get a notice from the bank notifying me my policy changed. Now it's a major ordeal.

Morning all. Another week of massive piles of drawings. Worked 6 hours on Sunday and so far I am into it for 399 11x17 sheets.

They took the extra tinting off the cayenne windows. Wow. It looks like day time thru the rear view mirror. Used to look like night during daylight, and not even headlights at night. Don't know why someone would limo tint their car.

The same reason as someone using drywall screws to mount a bare sub-woofer to the cover for the spare time and block the access to the spare and the tool kit.

Well at least a couple people are enjoying their week.

RKDinOKC 03-03-2020 01:42 PM

And make sure you cant open the cover, screw half the amp mounting for 2 different amps to the cover as well!
Don;t even want to comment about screwing speakers to the tops of the A and C pillars!

Need to pair my iphone with the carplay to see if the phone and text steering wheel buttons work?
They told me only the volume buttons would work, but the channel and search buttons work just like they are supposed to.

You Saturday guys...

What are the differences in IRAs or Feduciary companies?

GH85Carrera 03-03-2020 08:21 PM

An IRA can be a CD, mutual funds, brokerage, stocks and bonds. How the funds are invested is up to you. For 2020 at your age I bet you can put in $7,000.

RKDinOKC 03-03-2020 11:43 PM

Brother says he has his money in two IRAs because one can invest in property.

Old enough I can move any or all of my 401K into an IRA without penalty or taxes.
And continue to pay into 401K from salary.

The problem is they won't help you much or crunch any numbers if you don't sign a feduciary contract.

Have been looking at what might happen if get classified disabled due to diabetes issues and wreck complications. Looks like a $100/mo difference between disability now and goes up the $100 when turn 67 and becomes retirement instead of disability.

GH85Carrera 03-04-2020 06:36 AM

I have one IRA that is a conversion Roth IRA and it is in a mutual fund. I have another IRA that is a 'straight" or normal IRA that is the one I can put more money in, and one IRA that is in a brokerage and invest in the stock market.

For year I just put money in the conventional IRA but at some point my wife said I could I could convert it to the Roth. Likely you can take all or some of the 401K money and convert it to a Roth IRA so it pays no taxes when you draw it out in retirement. I am FAR from an expert but what the money is invested in is pretty much up to you. Ultra-conservative and safe is a CD drawing a few percent but always going slowly up. More risky is some municipal bonds or a mutual fund. Or risk it all in a brokerage account and put it in the stock market, real estate investments or whatever.

I am a 41 year member of USAA so I use them from some investments but I do use other companies as well.

When you say IRA I always think of this:

Nephew may have found a guy to fixup and sell the 928GTS for me. He is a car guy lawyer. His son is a wrench for a high end shop here in town, ie Ferrari. His daughter is a service advisor at the local Porsche dealership.

GH85Carrera 03-05-2020 06:05 AM

That 928 has been a better performer than your 401K I suspect. Roll that puppy into a new IRA and figure out how aggressive you want to be. Actually I don't think you can open an IRA with that much money. I hing it is limited to 7K per year at your age. You will want to put it in some for of investment. I know by Tesla shares with it!

It will be a good bump to your retirement savings.

RKDinOKC 03-05-2020 07:27 AM

yep, bought it for 40K, Hagerty says now is 90K.

Have done updates that are common for 928 owners so it is not stock, but is what people like.

It already had...
Upgraded springs
Devek adj front swaybar
Koni Red rebound adj shocks
But noy balance very well.

What I have done...
Louie Ott adj drops links (to adj rear sway bars)
Adj and corner balanced suspension for optimal driving
Multi grind valves, new valves (replaced due to cam gear breaking from factory defect)
Installed Porsche GT Cams (more performance without harming drivability)
Installed Sharktuner with with programable ECU chips (PEMs) to customize tune.
New clutch.
18 inch lighter weight wheels (Porsche 2002 5 spoke lightweights)
Removed rear muffler (RMB, rear muffler bypass)
Added Devek tuned headers for 5.4 liter motor, custom tuned x-pipe , and sport cats.
Removed Smog Air Pump (can still pass sniffer with sharktuning and sport cats)
Sand blasted and re-painted Instake and valve covers (they had started chipping which is normal)
Drill pistons for oil removal from oil scraper ring grooves (was not done from factory on some cars and burned oil)
Added wideband O2 and tuned for upgrades with Sharktuner.

What it needs...
drivers rear sidemarker light replaced (lens fell off, common due to age, have part)
Add bung to x-pipe and hook up factory narrowband O2 sensor for ECU (is currently running and tuned with no O2 input to ECU)
Bigger injectors (using almost 100% injectors opening, have injectors needs re-sharktuned after install)

It should be around 400 rwhp instead of the stock 345 crank horsepower.

Oh yeah, the factory cassette and CD are in the car, but do not work. The independent shop I used took out the amp trying to get the sharktuner to work (even though they are not related?) Turned out their laptop corrupted the ECU file trying to upload changes.
