Wow. We just heard a BOOM and the lights flickered. A transformer blew up fairly close by, but fortunately for us, it is not the direct feed to our area.
The sleet and rain has stopped, so at least it should not build up anymore ice. |
It is getting a bit nippy round here.
|
its chilly everywhere
|
Almost like it was trying to freeze out the gobblins.
|
Stijn!!
The trees are really struggling. None of the leafs have dropped so all the trees are full of ice covered leaves and really bent or broken.
So far we have no real tree damage but it is supposed to be below freezing until Wednesday. |
Well one thing for sure, Oklahoma is wildfire-proof right now. With a coating of ice on everything not much will burn. We still have electricity and only a few flickers and one 5 second outage.
Last night it was still sprinkling down and my wife asked if I would help out her sister-in-law's niece. Of course I said that depends. Her friends car was coated in ice and they could not even get in it. She is living in the dorms of the college that is mile from our house. She (the niece) needed to get to the loacal Walgreens that is just another mile further away. So I got on the phone and drove to the campus and she told me how to find her dorm building and what parking lot she was waiting in. So we went to the store, and she got her meds for Bell's palsy and we got back. The roads were just wet still which surprised me. No elevated roads or bridges to cross. It was not a big ordeal. We both wore masks so I have no idea what she looked like. Wow, we just lost one major limb from our Bradford Pear tree in the front yard. It split off right at the trunk, so it is likely a gonner tree. The good news is is is not blocking the neighbors driveway or anything else. No fence damage or anything else. Too much ice on trees in full leaf. |
Morning all. No ice here just chilly. The little road trip will be good karma for you.
|
It also earned me a thank you hug and kiss from the boss's wife! Whoo hoo.
In the end it was not a big deal and the chick offer to pay me 5 bucks for gas. I refused to take any money from a poor college student. I told he she was riding in a car that was paid for way way back in 1992 long before she was born. My cost per mile is cheap. I did get one side errand finished. I bought a card for my wife's birthday while I was there. That is something that would be VERY costly to forget. She really likes a card. I got her a gift I think she will like. Figuring out gifts for each other is hard. We are both at the point if we think of something we want, we get it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J5HJZRM/ref=pe_386300_442618370_TE_dp_i1 I got her this. No really. She has fairly week grip and struggles to cut small items. This will make it a lot easier for her. I just hope she like em. |
good for you. Yeah we have the same problem if I want it I go get it. We tend to modify that in November to "do you want it and can wait its under the Christmas tree.

I just walked around outside for a few minutes. Lots of trees just exploding and falling down under the weight of the ice. The landfill is about to get a huge volume of tree debris in coming weeks.
The neighborhood going towards Richard's area is full of trees. I heard several tree limbs have a loud report and the sound of limbs crashing to the ground. |
I think we have only had one ice storm in all the years living here.
|
This one is unusual because it is so early in the year. The trees were just starting to get some color, and no trees were dropping leaves yet.
The roads still look just wet, and the sidewalks are just wet, but the trees and utility wires are not doing well. We are lucky in that our neighborhood is all underground utilities. Our pear tree is likely a write off., and we will have to have it removed. It was the only tree that remained that the builder put in. When we first moved in I threw the garden hose over the top of it when watering. Then I installed the sprinkler system a year later. The other 4 trees the builder put in either died or were lots in other ice storms. At least nothing can fall on the house. |
I just got an email in my spam box that was supposed to be from Cox, saying my email log-in has changed and to click the link below. It came from a comcast domain. Hmmm, gee I think I will just report that as spam and delete it.

My cottonwood shed limbs all over my back yard the sweet gum tree in the front yard peeled a layer like a bradford pear.
This is the first time I can see the power lines above the back fence for 20 years. My helper called. her power is out and a tree broke a couple of limbs off. pics look pretty lame compared to the cottonwood. She quit sending me pics when i sent her a pic of my back yard full of cottonwood limbs. |

We don't get ice very often. I would take snow any day over ice. My mother in law and her husband moved to the mountains of Arkansas because they were tired of the humid weather in the summer and snow in the winters here in Wisconsin. It is hot and humid where they moved and they have ice storms all the time in the winter. |

And more is on the way! The power company has calls out to lots of other states looking for lineman help. THe trees are going to be devastated. |
Morning all. Stay safe and warm. mostly stay off the road away from those that attempt to drive.
|
Amazingly enough the roads have stayed mostly just wet. It is just the trees getting hammered. We had a third wave of rain come through but it is finally 33 degrees so the ice is slowly melting.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1603892754.jpg The Japanese Maple we planted last year was crushed by the neighbors tree falling into our back yard. This tree is just gone. The tree behind it might be salvageable but it has severe damage. We have been lucky with our electricity. Richard lost his power last night. Our guest bedroom is not suitable for guests right now. |
Did it hit the fence also?
