Hey, TGIF I think.

I remember so many years that Friday was payday, and I wanted to sing the ZZ Top song, Just got Paid. At my first job the cheap ass boss only paid me once per month. That really sucked for a 16 year old, but I managed to survive until payday each month. When I moved to Oklahoma payday was every Friday. I really loved that as I was broke as I ever was in my live. Moving to Oklahoma used up all my cash. I had less than 15 bucks in my checking account after I got moved in.

Now I lose track of what day it is and rely on my watch to tell me the day of the week. Everyday is pretty much Saturday.

So semi-retired then?

GH85Carrera 01-21-2022 08:44 AM

We could use more business to keep us busier, but then we would have to work harder. We are making plenty to pay all the bills, and still pay us, but not have to work very hard.

We try to keep the perfect balance. I will spend less than an hour today working on the company books, and be done for the day. I can start drawing retirement money if I wanted, but I will let it build a little more first.

Great you just have to love updates. Computer insisted on an update then it need a restart. Well not he docking station is not working.

flipper35 01-21-2022 05:21 PM

They usually try to update at the least practical time as well.

Had to get a battery for the F150 today. $200 for a 850CCA or $200 for a 650CCA, same brand, different stores. Did not work on the garden shed today. 5* and breezy and I hate wearing heavy gloves with power tools.

I did get the remote start in the Avenger this evening so I can actually warm it up before I leave someplace now. The plug was easy to get to where you could see it, but required someone like Mr Fantastic to actually be able to unplug and replug. I cheated and cut a small channel to fit my fingers in the brace behind the dash.

Morning all. Still no help from IT. Still without an extra monitor.

GH85Carrera 01-24-2022 07:00 AM

Way back in the 1980s we paid 12 grand for a 6 MHz IBM PC AT, 32 MB hard drive, amber text on a black background work monitor, and hooked to a fancy RGB monitor that displayed 256 color! I could use the menus of the program with a tablet to input the different commands, select the colors of the final graphic, add in the text and whatever else, then output it to a color slide film with 12.7 million colors at very high resolution. The film recorder was 30 grand by itself.

It usually blew away the clients that came in and were used to using monochrome monitors to see a computer with TWO monitors, and a monitor with a color display.

A few months later the 16 color display cards and then the full 256 color monitors started to show up.

My CPA uses a computer with 4 monitors.

Porsche-poor 01-24-2022 07:33 AM

Normally I have 3 but now its only 2 and one is the crappy 15" laptop.

flipper35 01-24-2022 03:53 PM

I only have 3 27" curved monitors. :(

Porsche-poor 01-25-2022 06:42 AM

Morning all. Only 3? I have monitor envy now.

Well it seems that UPS is using the weather to delay everything. A new dock was supposed to be here today but I just go notification that it will be one day late due to weather.

GH85Carrera 01-25-2022 07:00 AM

The Elky is all clean again.

I just have one 27 inch monitor and a little 21 inch monitor. The boss's wife insisted I have a nice looking fancy desk, workspace with a cabinet on the back side, so my monitor space is limited. It is L shaped, so a worktop with three drawers on one side, and the tower and computer cabinet on the other side. With two tower computers, and the keyboard drawer and my color laser printer in it.

The main 27 inch monitor is a 3840x2160 or 4K display.

My computer has the outputs to run 8 monitors. Four from each video card. There is just no way to add more monitors with this desk setup.

This mess is on the dining room table. It was supposed to be a temp thing. Well March will make 2 years of working from home.

GH85Carrera 01-25-2022 11:34 AM

I set up the home office back in the days when I had a regular job, and my old cheap computer I built on a budget. That computer morphed into a 18 TB RAID 5 and now lives at my partner's house.

I have my home office in a room by itself.

Yesterday was a perfect day to fly, and my business partner flew a "campus" like setting spread over a large area. He said the day was perfect smooth, and fun to fly. He got happy fingers and shot a LOT of pictures. I had to open the RAW files, convert them to 145 MB tif files, then to JPG files with a much lower resolution. Even as a JPG they were 36 MB each. Then upload them all to our One Drive and the customer is happy.

It still just slays me that our Canon shoots a bigger image in JPG mode than the $5,000 IBM computer's entire 32 GB hard drive had for capacity. It would not have been able to store one single full resolution image. I just zipped through almost 200 full res files, converted them to what is useful to the client, and uploaded them in short order.

Computer all fixed. Turns out when the makes does a bios update they for some reason kill off the docking station and video drivers.

No one uses those so why not?

When I update my BIOS it sometimes resets to hard drive modes to eliminate the BIOS setting. So the first reboot, I just go into the BIOS to be sure it is set right.

It is always scary to update BIOS. It is easy to brick a computer that way.

Porsche-poor 01-25-2022 02:14 PM

no one uses a docking station? Well I have been for the past two years, Its also a laptop that is not high end enough to keep up with 3D demands.

Porsche-poor 01-26-2022 07:04 AM

Morning all. Two down three to go. I think this weekend is a donate run to move some stuff out of the garage. No not the 911.

GH85Carrera 01-26-2022 07:57 AM

I need to get up into my attic and donate some old crap to the landfill. Stuff up there since we moved in here 22 years ago is just going away to fill the trash cans.

Porsche-poor 01-26-2022 07:58 AM

I probably need to do some of that as well.

flipper35 01-26-2022 02:53 PM

Last time we took a load I had an old motorcycle tire and a sink and a bunch of other stuff. It cost $6 to get rid of the tire but they said that fee covered the rest as well since we only had a couple hundred pounds.

All our vehicles are white and it has been cold enough the car washes are closed at the moment. I don't know why, it was only -20* the other morning so the bays would not freeze instantly, it would take a couple minutes.
