Morning all. We had cold but sunny weather all weekend.

GH85Carrera 02-08-2022 06:17 AM

Today the rest of the snow should all go away. All that is left is in the shade of the not side of things. In our front flower bed just outside of the garage on the north side of the house, the wind swirls, and left a deep drift of snow, and it is always in the shade this time of year. That drift may last through the day. It is a gonner with 60s for the next few days.

I need to move my 911 over to the work bay. The last time I drove it, the footwell blowers did not come on. Hopefully it is just a fuse, and not the relay that is unobtainable. There is a of course a "fix" on the tech site to open it up, and rewire one connection. I have that thread bookmarked.

Porsche-poor 02-08-2022 06:52 AM

Morning all. I have a back log of crap to do that can not be done on the weekend as they think its fine tp make me take time off from work.

Porsche-poor 02-09-2022 06:56 AM

Once again morning all. I think all jobs should come with nap time.

GH85Carrera 02-09-2022 07:48 AM

Yep, I calculate in how much nap time is included with each project! It is factored into the delivery times.

We had to make a run to Sam's for fruit this morning. They were out of blueberries last time, and again today. Mrs Carrera insist on berries on her cereal in the morning. She had to settle for just blackberries. It was all food, and mostly fruit and we got out of there for under 50 bucks. That is a rare event. Hopefully they will have blueberries on the next visit.

Porsche-poor 02-09-2022 09:36 AM

We have see a few things of late that we can't get.

Porsche-poor 02-10-2022 06:51 AM

Morning all. It was over 50 here yesterday. Lots of sun.

GH85Carrera 02-10-2022 08:19 AM

Well crap, I failed to get the footwell blowers to work on the 911. I gotta do more learning and reading and head scratching.

It was 68 yesterday. Nice weather fer sure.

Porsche-poor 02-10-2022 10:11 AM

The motor dead?

flipper35 02-10-2022 10:16 AM

A car that new should still be under warranty!

I bet it is something simple in theory but difficult in reality.

Porsche-poor 02-10-2022 10:18 AM

he forgot to lick his fingers and then hold the wires while power is applied.

GH85Carrera 02-10-2022 10:19 AM

There are footwell blowers on both side of the car. The engine compartment blower has to be working (and it is) and there is a large relay that has to allow the footwell blowers to run. I am pretty sure my relay is not working. The 911 tech forum has an ongoing thread on how to fix it. I have posted in that thread. I think there is a simple (sort of) way to "fix" the relay as they are not available anymore.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1644517028.jpg

When I took my relay out I saw this corrosion and thought I had found the problem. After 36 years and 182,000 miles it was the first time that relay had been pulled. The corrosion was not the issue. But I fixed that issue anyway.

Porsche-poor 02-11-2022 07:03 AM

Morning all. Get your relay sorted?

GH85Carrera 02-11-2022 07:34 AM

Not yet.

https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1108684-footwell-blowers.html

That relay is about $500 used. As with all things 911, the brain trust on the tech site is amazing. There is a way to solder in a little jumper to bypass the problem, maybe. It all depends on if the small relay is OK, or not.

Porsche-poor 02-11-2022 07:40 AM

good luck.

HHI944 02-11-2022 06:37 PM

Howdy fellas.
I had a slightly bigger electrical issue than Glenn's on the Benz and decided to put her down.
I'm now the depressed owner of a 2017 Camry...first vehicle I've ever financed. It's definitely not a Jag or even a Benz as far as the interior, but it's a good car and 35mpg is pretty nice.

GH85Carrera 02-14-2022 06:23 AM

I got my heater blowers kicking butt again! Yeah.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1644847686.jpg
This is the problem relay. It is in the off, or open position.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1644847686.jpg

This is powered on, an closed. If the contacts don't close when the power to the engine compartment fan is running, the footwell booster blowers will not run. I guess the first run at it trying to clean the fuses and connectors was not good enough. You can see the glass tube with the wide coil of wire around it. That is the reed relay that senses the power on at the engine compartment fan. If the engine compartment fan is not running, it will not allow the footwell blowers to run.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1644847929.jpg

When I first took the relay off the harness I saw this corrosion, and assumed that was the problem. I cleaned it but the fans would not come on. I can only assume after a dozen installations and removals of the box, something finally connected. I also spent more time cleaning the three fuses on the side of the engine compartment.

Bottom line I have the super duper heater of the G body heating system working at 100%. And as a bonus, I added the fuses to the two footwell blowers that Porsche left off until 1986. Fuses were not a strong point for Porsche in that era.

Porsche-poor 02-14-2022 06:55 AM

Morning all. My brother is evil. He gave me a car mag that has my 79 listed at 30k (long shot) for a value to sell.

GH85Carrera 02-14-2022 09:43 AM

If your 79 is has good paint and no major mechanical issues it is likely worth way more than that.

Go to the Hagerty web site for valuation.

https://www.hagertyagent.com/apps/valuationtools/1979-Porsche-911-SC_3.0?id=20858

They say an average value is 44K. For just a fair it is 35K. A perfect condition is 105K.

GH85Carrera 02-14-2022 02:32 PM

Burp.

The boss gave me the afternoon off to take the boss's wife to Valentine's "brunch" at the restaurant where we had our first date. I knew that they get real busy on Feb 14th and a 3:00 PM was the ideal time to get in. The parking lot was still pretty full, and the restaurant was not yet packed. As we left at 4:00 PM there was a line of people waiting to get in the door to get to the hostess. By 5:00 PM they will be people waiting just to get a table. Those working stiffs that can't get there early.
