We are supposed to get up to 60 today. We received two inches of rain since yesterday. Mostly steady rain, not a torrential rain for 15 minutes.

The garage is straightened back up and looking better.

Being in IT I can tell you IT cannot leave well enough alone.

In that case go slap yourself for me!

They did maint of some sort last night and now nothing works. During this whole covid thing they changed the VPN system three times and each time it got slower.

Well in our case the VPN work MUCH better than the old one, but we have ON OCCASION caused some performance issues for a brief period of time in which I would not have admitted to if I were a less honest guy. Mostly we make sure those after hours upgrades don't cause issues when they are done.

I did have the former tech once reboot a server in the middle of a migration from a physical to virtual host after he was told to leave it alone and let it do its thing. That was not a pretty conversation and wiped out a few hours work and had to start the process all over the next night so everyone had two nights of performance issues instead of one. The procedure is much better now than it was all those years ago.

Do they encrypt the drives of any equipment you bring home?

I have not a clue. Probably not all the drawing data and project data is stored on servers. They powered those off this morning. Seems to a nation wide thing for us. Heads will roll.

I wish I had an IT department to yell at sometimes. Every single stinking update Microsoft does messes up the sharing on my little three computer network. Microsoft wants me to be secure and only unplugging the network power to the modem could make it safer when it refuses to share.

Of course a IT department would want me to have a unique username and complex password for each computer. I am not sure how that would work since I have had only one name for my entire life. It is one thing I miss about Window XP, the file and folder sharing remains the same for years.

I'm trying to convince IT that it is possible to print to a local printer while connected to the VPN. All they have to do is tick a box in the VPN setup that says 'Enable local LAN access', but NO, they know better and say 'you can only print local if you disconnect from the VPN'.

But, but, it isn't secure to allow you to access the local LAN to print to your own printer!

All ya'll can yell at me any time you feel the need to vent at IT.

Glen, you could use a domain and have the same user name and password on each computer. Or, you could anyway with most IT. I would suggest a long pass phrase instead of a complex password. They are easier to remember and harder to crack. Also, delay the stupid updates so they can create more bugs for you to update.

I hate passwords, and I don't have a log on password at all for any of my computers. It just turns on, and works. I just have to fight to share files with myself. For small files it is sometimes easier to use a USB drive to move a file.

Ok it just went from bad to worse. I got a pop up message telling me this problem may continue till the am and 3rd party help has been called in. If I was younger it would be time to go bug the wife for a bit. Two things wrong with that I'm old and she went to the office today. LOL

Today is car wash and detail the 911 for tomorrow's car show. We used to do our own car show, and it is a lot of work, and hard to find volunteers willing to have the meetings and planning and set it all up. It was always in the September time frame, and we had some great weather. One other car show was done in Guthrie in the middle of summer and always HOT. For 37 years now they have had it at a local park in Guthrie. Last year we convinced them to move it to September, and let us throw our support in with them.

Ours was always European cars, now it is open to anyone.

Morning all. Well the saga continues. The project servers are back up but the VPN is still down so those working remotely are still stuck.

oh heck no. I already told them I am not working the weekend. I have a nursey to finish and IT lack of planning on their part is not making me change my plans at this point.
