Dell makes cheap kinda sorta almost industry standard stuff. We had many Dell computes that did the job they were bought to do. Baking any upgrades was always a pain it possible at all without Dell parts.

It is the major reason I build my systems with all 100% industry standard parts. PCI-E cards will be had to find expect used on EBAY. Like finding 15 inch tires for a 911.

Likely your motherboard is in a Dell case, so no replacement motherboard will fit. I bet you can find a friend or relative with an old computer they don't use and buy it cheap.

If it uses USB be sure it is USB 3 at a minimum. 3.1 is even better.

USB 2 is pitiful slow.

All their stuff is pretty good, just make sure it has the connections you need for whatever you are connecting to. A VCR uses coax and composite with composite being the better picture of the two. Some cameras use svideo which is even better.

That should work great as long as your source has those. I am assuming the VCR so you should be good. It was a few days ago when we talked about it though.

I took the 911 our for a short drive to test the AC in the 91 degree heat. I deliberately ran it at maximum cold for the 20 minute drive. I was about to freeze, so I stopped and checked the AC compressor. The system was working so well that the return suction line to the compressor was even frosted.

If I can generate that much cooling, in hotter weather the evaporator can blow it all on us and I will be cooler than James Bond saving the world again.

I need to set up my parents old 8 mm home movies and figure out how to digitize them. To send them out is insane expensive.

https://www.amazon.com/Wolverine-Film2Digital-MovieMaker-Card-Bundle/dp/B01NBHQSOC?&linkCode=sl1&tag=indiewire0d-20&linkId=28ad0513d399303cea8c6718c25948e0&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl

I may buy something like this.

Most of the non digital cameras had those exact connections. Yours may be unique but I am 99% sure that is what you need.

Glen, there is a local company here that did those old 8mm to digital that wasn't very expensive. Our closest town is 50k people, I am surprised OKC doesn't have someone.

Yep. My wife's family decided that the old movies needed to be put on VHS tape. Of course VHS has gone the way of 8 track tapes or floppy drives. One of the older TIVO units I had could burn a DVD of any input, from tape or from a TV show or movie. So I made a digital version of that VHS tape before it died. The people that converted it to VHS did a poor job, and it is pretty dark.

I then ripped the DVD to a MP4 movie, and have it on my computer. Then I uploaded it to YouTube and made it a move that only people with the link can play. So all the family can see it anytime from their own phone or computer.

I am sure my home movies will be a big money maker and YouTube will get millions of hits.

Last time I searched for someone the market had collapsed. Most people that had home movies had already had them converted, and all that was left was people projecting them on a wall and using a video camera to record it. Just crappy quality.

The unit on Amazon is not cheap, but I bet once I convert all of my movies, I can sell it for about half. I might even find one used on EBay.

I would like to capture them all, and then do a lot of editing. No one but my brother and I really care about them. My nephew might want to see a few of the highlights, but I doubt I could restrain him to sit through all of them.

It would be nice to capture the images to digital, and store them on my RAID, and on YouTube. Then do the hard part, trash the original movies.

Correct, if it has S-Video (black) connector that would give the best video quality, otherwise the yellow composite video will work, and then the Red and White are the audio. If your camera is mono you can use a splitter to record both or just have the computer record in mono, which is what I would do.

PCI-E (x4 or x16) are current tech still. PCIe 4.0 just came out a few years ago.
