Personal Time Off. We do not have sick days anymore. Vacation and sick were combined into PTO. Those of us old timers told them it was stupid. Lets see I only have 3 days left and I want to add it onto a holiday weekend and go to the beach. Cough cough guess I'm going into work sick so I don't use any PTO and can go to the beach next month.

There are likely a 1,000 way to do sick time and personal time for companies. Every human will have a sick day, and at some point, have something to take care of in their life that is not work related.

I have only worked for small family owned companies. I just went and talked to the owner and never have dealt with an HR department, ever. Now I have a mean slave driver boss that makes me fill out all sorts of paperwork and pays me only in beer and lets me drive his cars.

Personal time or trips to the dentist are always easy arrange since they are his teeth.

make sure he lets you keep them.

The whole PTO thing is nuts. For me its no big deal I have been here long enough to be max'd out at 5 weeks. Others who are new have the min of 2 weeks. That two weeks is technically one weeks vacation and one week sick leave all lumped into PTO. Don't get sick they get two weeks vacation.

My wife worked at a local state operated university. They had to follow state law for all HR stuff. She was a typical of most, in that she had tons of sick days and vacations days accumulated, and hed to take off work on occasion or loose the time as she had maxed out.

Many of the people she knew there was always totally out of vacation or sick days and had to have their checks reduced because they had just "called in sick" on Monday morning they did not feel like coming to work.

I work for a use it or lose it company. There is no rolling over at the end of the year. If you don't use it by then it is gone. In some extreme cases they will roll over till March and that is only of the project you are on can not let you take time off.

Airline flight is not a good thing with an ear infection or sinus infection.

That sucks.

The flight will not be problem. Do to repeated ear infections since I was 2 the ear drums are shot or non-existent. Its really just the being tired and not sleeping well.

It sounds like you need drain tubes like kids get. Hopefully your doctor is on top of it, and has the right treatment ready.

Good luck.

Had those off and on for years. They are the main reason the ear drums are gone. They are called PE tubes for some reason and in my case they will not help.

I am hiding out inside as the boss's wife is working in the flower beds. I was enlisted to get the wheel barrow out of the storage shed, and load up some mulch and soil and hauled it to the work area.

Now I need to load up a mapping project to be busy!

I know this may shock you, but the other day I fell asleep in front my computer. She walked down the hall and just had to yell out your sleeping! I woke up and rather curtly said so damn what. Don't wake me up for that! My boss demands I take a nap when needed, company policy. Like shorts are required company dress code all summer.
