It's double the thickness.. But, there's not a lot of meat there.

AAAAAarrrgh, decisions decisions.... A simple 3.4 or a HOT 3.2....
Seems like the only/best way to stay within budget is ditching the 3.4 and re-use my old P/C'S.....
I NEED a 3.4... why do I suck at working within budget??? Why do I decide what I want and THEN look at the cost of it???

sorry bout the bird Dave. that must suck even more.
I spent 10K in parts and machine work and reused my P&Cs

Sorry about your bird Dave.

I know it's not a lot, but I think it's enough. It's not like the entire engine weight is hanging on those two little pieces where there is 'little meat'.
I'm planning on using it. For disassembling anyway, most of the weight is already of the engine, only pistons, cilinders and heads.
Maybe I should learn how to weld and do it myself next time..

Robert,

Looks great!
I am looking at 10k as well, in European dollars.....
Which is way more than what I want to spend.
I'm afraid I'll have to do some cutbacks here and there.... It sorta depens on what the grand total will be. I'll know tomorrow.

PS: how do you get that thing off the stand again???

that's why it was supposed to be a thick plate, that extends a bit over the edge...that would provide more meat for the bolt hole

My engine will be apart completely tomorrow.
Had a look in cil no 3, and it looks good, honing pattern is still clearly visible. Piston was all black, charred, like my exhaust valves...

cost saving wise, you could opt to simply rebuild as is , with new bearings, head studs, piston rings and a minor head job... you could probably get it back in one piece for under 5 grand
