No, the vacuum bleeder method. Originally I was set on the one guy at the corner, the other pumping the pedal method. But filling up the transmission took freakin' forever due to the small diameter tubing I had on hand (and lack of any sort of pump to speed up the process). So while Dave was minding the Swepco (fill up funnel attached to tubing and wait...), I was bleeding the corners. That "gold" ATE isn't so much gold as it is almost-clearish. So the old "blue" stuff just fades to light blue. Not nearly as dramatic a color change as write-ups had me think.

Why do all old vehicular fluids (other than maybe motor oil) smell like cat piss?

I was born without a sense of smell, so I have no idea.
In fact, I dont know what anything smells like.
In fact, I dont even know its like to have the sensation.
I think it must be like a taste in the air.
Am I close?

Just for clarification, I've never had the opportunity to actually taste cat urine. But based upon how it smells, it's an experience on which I'll pass.

Dude, sometimes there are times we want to unsmell something. This is one of them. Don't do the taste test, you'll regret it. You are not missing a thing - not that I've tasted it either...

That can be a good thing if it's Mexican night at home for dinner.

Or if you live in Bakersfield. Man, the whole town smells like manure. How do people who live there stand it?

If anyone wanted to kill me, gas would be the go.
I would not know what was going on.

I have never tried the vacuum method. Maybe its time.

Yes, the transmission fluid is really slimy stuff and takes time to fill up.

Hope you don't smoke.

Perhaps you've seen those pictures of that farmer in KY (or something) who was using a backhoe to dig fence posts. He hit a gas line. At first, the aerial pics don't look too bad--just a medium-sized crater in the ground. Then they show an overhead shot revealing about a 2-mile radius from said crater. Everything is flattened. They never found the backhoe.

Well, either it's the olfactory nerve or your brain. Is it congenital or acquired?

I had a friend who couldn't smell. It happened after he hit his head on the ground from a skateboarding accident. I'm guessing he sheared off the olfactory nerve as it passed from the nose to the brain through the cribiform plate.

Vas, given that the pathway from the molecules hitting your nose to the signals light up the smell center of your brain is a multi stage procedure, there can be several explanations on many levels. An ENT doc should be able to make a diagnosis.

Correction: Appomattox, Virginia

Funny, the original story I read was that a farmer hit a gas line and this was the result. Obviously, not the case. Pretty freaky, nonetheless.
