I talked to several layers of idiots until I got up the food chain to a person with more than the ability to breath and talk. It still took a very carefully worded letter to get them to admit I was right.

My wife took me and our youngest daughter out for supper Monday for my birthday ( actually it was on the 9th but i left for Kansas Tues.)
Anyway check comes and they wouldn't take a check so guess who had to pay

Hey, the friend I'm staying with here in Austin is one of those at&t phone dummies. He does the support for the technicians doing the installation of Wi-fi in places like MacDonalds. You would be surprised to find they are forced into being dummies by the protocols they either follow or they are fired. And they are monitored and must report in writing everything that happens for review by their superiors.

Richard, I have no doubt that is accurate. At work we bought several Dell computers. One of them had the cooling fan screaming. I called tech support because the computers came with free on site service. The tech came on and heard the fan and called in for a RMA. The phone support told the tech to unplug the speakers! I was laughing at the steps he had to go through. Over an hour later he finally got the ok to order a new motherboard.

My friend says the good techs know the drill and go thru the steps as fast as he can call them out. He is mainly dealing with wi-fi routers that are improperly configured. Says the worst is when it requires a password for reconfigure and they have to go several layers up the supervisor chain on his end and the techs companies end both to get it and then sometimes they still can't get a password and have to fail the install and reschedule when a new router is delivered.
