Oh, and I will continue to formulate my plans for my 'best car ever'. Probably will be something like a Beck Spyder but with some cool high tech stuff. I am a Mechanical Engineering student, after all. Think Ariel Atom but looking better.
if you are interested in a ducati, but not a literbike, my recommendation is the 748/749. my friend's 749 is a dream to ride and plenty fast. it is much easier to corner than any bike i've ever ridden, including my SS. the monster is a great bike, but not in the same class, handling-wise, as the ducati superbikes, including the 748/749.

If you do cams and/or up to boost, be sure to check out going little stiffer on valve springs. Porsche only puts in enough spring to do the job.

Yes, a friend's. As another friend warned/predicted, now I'm spoiled. I've been thinking of that car all day long since the test drive this morning.

That same friend has a 2000 Monster 750 (with Termi CF cans) for sale. $3K. It's got maybe 8 or 9K miles. Service has always been done at a dealer.

I've got a '93 888. Also recently added a '93 900SS to the stable. I rode both of them today. What a way to start off the New Year.

Yes it may take a week or two.
Does it sound like something odd?

+1

That would cut into my tuition a little bit.

On the other hand, that is only a few sets of 911 tires and an oil change away. If I drove the 911 much less...

No, not really. Most electrics back then were lap steel though...

With my 944 Turbo I had to learn judicious throttle in the corners. I used carrying just the right amount of speed so slowly lifting off the brakes while turning in rotates the car into a 4 wheel drift. Then getting back on the throttle is not about getting the turbo spooled back up as much as putting enough throttle on to carry the drift into and thru the apex, but not so much as to overboost and get the rear too loose. Everyone kept telling me I need to left foot brake to trail brake to keep the turbo spooled for the apex. But, for me trail braking deeper so I could keep on the throttle was just too difficult to manage the balance to go into a 4 wheel drift on turn-in and maintain it through the apex. And you really don't need the turbo boost to maintain the 4 wheel drift into and thru the apex. Besides, I was turning faster laps than the guys that were "trail braking to keep the turbo spooled."

Don't get me wrong, there was some lag between turning into a 4 wheel drift and getting back on the throttle, but that's where the skill comes in. Get on the throttle BEFORE it's necessary, but not too much. Had to really practice just how much to get back on the throttle to maintain the drift. The biggest thing was to not get in the throttle too much and have the turbo hit and runway with the corner too soon. Found having the A/C on helped to keep the turbo powered up.

This guy (lives pretty close to where I saw you today) is getting a little older (though not old) and is looking to thin his stable a bit. He's looking to sell his 993tt one day, as well as most of his motorcycles. He's got a couple of BSAs (one street, one dirt), a Ural w/sidecar, a Paul Smart replica (freakin' gorgeous) with 600 miles, that Monster 750, some BMW (I think he wants to keep, though), a Harley (wants to keep it, too), a KTM dirtbike, and a Kawi Ninja 1000. Also some Bultaco dirtbike he keeps at a friend's airport hangar in Santa Monica. Bikes from Japan, the UK, Germany, America, Russia, Italy, and Spain.

I'm calling dibs on the Porsche.

Turns out there's a $60K reward for the arsonist here in LA/Hollywood. That'll just about cover it for the 993. Supposedly a white guy with beyond shoulder length hair in a ponytail. Hmmm. Do I know anyone who fits that description here in LA and is frequently up late at night?

It's a good thing I've had an alibi these past few days.

Yes, the five speed is a big gain.
Its very expensive to do a swap.
Still wont be a great AX car.
But hard to beat on a track or road.
