Dave, when you figure out the answer to that question please let the rest of us know, so that maybe we can decide an answer for ourselves. I learned a few years ago that self examination is not easy nor is it fun. I came to terms with some of my demons from the past and it has helped me, but that question still remains, for different reasons that yours.

We need to get you some of that stuff they used in the old movie The Emerald Forrest, for some reason when I was having the same struggle that scene kept playing in my mind. Part of my drinking was because of these questions. I learned a great deal through my questions, but the most important thing I learned is that who I am today is not who I will be tomorrow and the only thing I can say is I know who I was yesterday.
You are a few steps ahead of me because I have yet to figure out how to sneak up on a mirror, either that or you are a vampire. Now that would be cool!!

Once again I feel so lucky to have had normal middle American parents. They were married for over 54 years before my mom died. Dad will be 82 in two weeks.

I never had to wonder if I was loved. We moved a lot since dad was an Air Force officer. We were never rich but never had to worry about food & shelter. I knew if I screwed up I would get a spanking but I never worried about abuse.

My childhood was not Leave it to Beaver, but it was close. My mom never vacuumed wearing a fancy dress, pearls and high heels like Beaver's mom.
