That's because you are distracted. Fun being by yourself or self absorbed in a project is one thing. Having fun with others your age is a different kind of fun. I enjoy working in a workshop alone sometimes with the iPhone tuned to KLOS, other times silence, but for the faint hum of the shop tools. I forget about all my troubles when I am fixated on something I like to do. I think we all do. If you go out with other people or some chick, you will quickly forget about your problems, just like if you were alone, enjoying a hobby.

Sidney is completely right. Yes, he does drink a little and using that, he stepped out of his comfort zone and tried an absolutely horrible drink. But, he did it.

Get the eff out there and enjoy your young life. There will be a day when you look back and wish you had done things differently. We've all been in your shoes and we all know the feelings you are having.

I figured it was something like that- but which is the real me? (I like that song. )

I already look back and regret not living more. But then I go back to my distractions/favorite activities and forget about it.

So many of the good PF songs are 'album only' on iTunes.

Yeah for YouTube!

You can change some of that. And that's what a bunch of us have been telling you (over and over). You are running out of time. When you are out of college, life changes.

One of your favorite activities will soon become your career. Guess what? It more than likely will not continue to be "favorite".

There are those that say that if you make a career out of something you love then you will never work a day in your life. Then there are those that say never make a hobby into a job because you will end up hating something you once loved.

The reality must be somewhere in the middle. There are plenty of aspects to engineering that do feel like work. But the feeling of accomplishment is greater for all the work.

And I have always loved to dream up and draw new things. Mostly airplanes and cars. But the design part of engineering I don't think will ever get old for me. It is part of who I am.

I think it has a lot to do with the pressures that come with the career. Time constraints, money constraints, clients/customers *****ing at you. I can see you burning out and losing the passion and then it will be something that you are a salve to.

I'm really burned out with computers and this isn't the first time. There was a time when it was fun and had a lot less stress attached. These days, I have deadlines, that have to be met in most cases and clients that just don't understand what is involved and think the problem can be solved in 10 minutes and should not cost a dime. I have an email serer sitting in my "office", that is still not fully functioning. Why? Because it's a pain to configure and I don't have the drive to fight with it anymore.

Right now, I'd love to get into woodworking and have it pay. It's not easy, it won't make me millions and there's a chance that I'll lose the passion that I have for it. I think the saving grace, is that there really isn't a time constraint with woodworking and if there is, you at least you know you have 9 months (example), to complete the project and it would be okay to extend a month if needed.

There are different types of engineering jobs. Some are much better than others for the enjoyment aspect. Unfortunately those are usually the risky ones like with small or start-up companies.

Max, shut up and listen. Don't counter with, what amounts to excuses.

You have also managed to deflect things once again. You were the one that poked Sidney a page ago and then when he chided you in the next post, you became defensive.

I was trying to be witty at the same time as being defensive. I guess I failed.

Dave, you don't know the future. Plus it's my duty as a young person to say f-you I am gonna do it myself and learn the hard way.

Unfortunately Max, I see this akin to "The Boy Who Cried Wolf". You can only run to the false cries so many times, before the cries go ignored and then the **** usually does hit the fan by that time.

You have a bunch of people have given you genuine help, over and over (here I go again), yet you still ask the same questions, just in a different format. A few months ago, you opened up and seemed to be looking for help. It has been given. Only you at this point can make it happen.
