Nope, the last step in your equation is X 0 so the answer is 0

It is ok Rick. You are not a college student doing math all the time so you get a pass.Order of Operations is: 1. Parentheses 2. Exponents 3. Multiplication and Division 4. Addition and Subtraction All done left to right. So: 5 + 5 + 5 - 5 + 5 + 5 - 5 + 5 x 0 = 5 + 5 + 5 - 5 + 5 + 5 - 5 + 0 = 15 however, (5 + 5 + 5 - 5 + 5 + 5 - 5 + 5 )x 0 = 0

No but I used to be very very good at math, back when I had enough fingers to do it

Rick, did you have to learn to use a slide-rule in school? You are a good bit younger than my dad but he did.

I did during drafting class but not in regular math classes. By regular I mean trig, calc, etc.

Interesting. Wonder why drafting class was different?

I don't know how to use about 90% of my calculators abilities. I just learned recently how to do complex vectors with it. It used to take me forever converting back and forth between rectangular and polar forms but now I can do it in one step. It also has unit conversions built in!

I like to think that I end up knowing the procedure better, though.
You can't use the TI-89 on the EIT/FE (Engineer in Training/Fundamentals of Engineering) exam anyway. But that only bothers me if there will be some weird integrals or nasty derivatives that would take a lot of work to get. I hate doing integration by parts. Seems like whenever I need to use it I end up with a repeating sequence or something that needs some identity or other trick that only the math majors would know.

Ah. The old guys are often some of the most fun. They are tenured and don't give a **** what the adminstration thinks.

In my high school the science lab had a giant slide rule. It hung from the celing and was probably 10 feet wide. The teacher could use it to teach the slide rule.

It is pretty amazing how much you can do with such a simple tool.

We have one on the shelf here at the office. It is in a nice leather case. It is a Keuffler & Esser, Co. N.Y. We use it to collect dust.
