My El Camino had a slow antifreeze leak that I noticed the other day. Easiest fix of all. Tighten up the hose clamp on the bottom. Fixed it!

Jeff a few years ago, I was fixing something on my parents roof and I spied that his pool was full of algae. A few days later, dad and I jumped in his plane with a camera and long lens. I jumped in back when we were over the his house and I snapped a bunch of pix. Those pix were then sent to the city and a few weeks later, he had a crew fixing the pool.
Yea, we spy on him. He is seriously crazy and collects crap from around town and deposits it all around his house. A year or two ago, we had some big rains that washed a lot of dirt at an intersection near my parents house. He was out with a shovel, cleaning up the street. He is certifiable, yet no one can get him committed. |

Yes, he has. He was arrested last year for battery on another neighbor. He was sent to a hospital for an evaluation. Unfortunately, they did not commit him. He nearly landed back in jail during the subsequent court date, as he flipped out and had to be restrained by the deputies. The judge was about to throw him in jail if he did not calm down. There is a restraining order against him now.

I don't think you all grasp how crazy he and the rest of his family are. It's been a nightmare for over 20 years. He lives on Domino's Pizza. When the cops went into his place when he was arrested, they found hundreds of empty boxes, not to mention a lot of computers that were junk and taken apart. The house was built in the late 60's and to this day, still looks like it is from the 60's, inside and out.

OK, not meant to be PARFy, but just a little bit so:
My office has a patient. Fortunately my partner's, but I've seen the guy once or twice in 2nd opinion consultation, as well. The guy is definitely one of those creepy types. As in, if we were interviewed after the fact we (pretty much everyone in the office) would agree that it wouldn't be surprising if he were one of those Colorado movie theater shooter type personalities. But weird and creepy as he is, what are we supposed to do with that? Our country cries for stricter gun laws (at least many in our country do). We cry for more help for mental illness. We criticize the people in contact with these mass shooters for not having said something to have stopped these nutjobs before they did the terrible things they did. But thinking back to this creepy patient from my office, what am I supposed to do with this? The guy may be weird. He may be unpleasant. But unless he says something (or walks in with a weapon), there's nothing I can do that would realistically prevent him from shooting up a movie theater or school. I can't call the cops. I can't call the feds. (Well I can--but on what grounds do they have to do anything?) I can't just go on gut feeling, even if it's shared by about 10 other people in my office. Likewise, what should people have done before the mass shootings in Colorado and Connecticutt and Colombine and with Gabby Giffords? In all instances the shooters may have been weirdos before their acts of destruction, but were there any real opportunities to predict and intervene proactively? We can't just lock people up because they're freaky.

I dumped Allstate today, well not formally, new policy that I have yet to pay for starts 00:00 Jan 11. I suppose I should call them tomorrow and let them know. New car ins. cuts my 6 month premium just about in half. This is a good thing. It is kinda freaky that they have access to my previous ins co. and were able to tell the I had an accident on my record (unless Allstate reported it to the DMV. I didn't) and had to bump the numbers up slightly. I things go well, I guess my rates should go down in a little more in a year, when the accident clears. Now time to see if I can cut back on my cell phone. I think my current package allows for way too many minutes.
