Afternoon gents.... Cold and getting colder here. They are predicting single digit wind chills tomorrow morning. For some reason I suspect I won't be able to drag my ass out of bed to go autocross in that temperature...

Yea, I ain't gonna autocross in 20 degree temps. The engine never does get to normal temp.

Yours or the cars? Either way I would be home in bed and warm.

Gotta say, turbos love the colder weather.

Tires, though, not so much.

And 20W oil doesn't care much for cold weather...

Really? 20W is designed for temps ranging from -4*F to 50*F.

You said 20W. I take that to mean a straight grade. The charts vary a bit, but 20W (Winter) - 50 should be good from roughly 0*F to well over 100*F.

Should be good, and how the car acts are different. In past winters I've run something a little thinner, but my pan gasket is getting bad enough that I'm afraid to go any thinner, it'll leak worse...

Temps out here are dropping like a rock. I went to my parents to turn the heater on in their house and the water back on for them (they are coming home from out of town) and as I was leaving I heard all this water running. I looked at their roof and water was gushing out of the solar panels. Looks like it went below freeing last night and whatever water was left in the panels froze, expanded and busted some sort of valve.

It's 45*F at my place right now, that means it's probably around 40* at my parents, about 10 minutes away from me. It's going to get cold by Cali standards tonight! I saw a blurb that said it's roughly 30* colder on the West coast than it should be and 30* warmer on the East coast. I'm in for the rest of the night and shoving folded newspaper in the front door to fill the gaps.
