I know it's not just about me. You've been a fatherly figure to others as well.

But the one thing that is about me, is the fact that I get a lot of people "suggesting" to do things to be safer while skiing and it really bugs me.

Fins are great when the waves are curling too far from shore but locally it's usually still shallow enough to push off the ground.

ah, man o' war. those things suck. my brother got into one on kauai, where he lives. they were kinda everywhere. next thing i know, he is dropping trousers and pissing on his arm. he said it worked, too.

As soon as we get an onshore wind, we get loads of them. Pissing on it helps, but the best thing is hot water, as hot as you can stand without causing a burn. The venom is protien based and heat breaks down the proteins. (Also works for mozzie bites )

if it's still itching, it'll fix it. Problem is getting the water hot enough to work but not so hot as to cause a burn. needs to be over 43°C to break the proteins down.

When I were a young Boy Sprout our sprout master would make us eat butter sammaches that had sulfur powder mixed into the butter before leaving on a camping trip. Said it kept them skeeters from bittin'. As I recollect, it tasted nasty, but it worked.

When in college we decided that beer did the same thing. However, you had to keep a constant intake going with the beer to keep up the repellent effect. Or at least keep up so you didn't care if ya got bit.

I'm less concerned about your own safety than me or some other bystander being knocked in the head by a loose ski when your boot breaks and lets your ski fly...

Around here we call mozzies a skeeter. It is funny, ya'll shorten the word on the first syllable we do it on the 2nd syllable. I wonder if anyone calls them toes or towies?

not really, sid. the skis have 'brakes', preventing them from hurting someone else. i was simply concerned about dave and i was having some fun teasing the man. apparently that makes me an arsehole. and it seems that he has some issues with me and this was his subtle way of letting me know that he has those issues and that that he thinks that i am an arsehole.
